What is Aksharabhyasam | Aksharabhyasam Pooja Vidhanam?

Aksharabhyasam is a Sanskrit word meaning initiation of education to a child by his parents and guru on a select auspicious day. The date for Aksharabhyasam varies according to the region. In Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and parts of Maharashtra, the Samskar of Aksharabhyasam for the child is begun during Navaratri festival. Muhurtam and date is also selected based on Janma Patrika (Horoscope). In Bengal, the festival of Basant Panchami dedicated to Goddess Saraswati occurring in the bright fortnight of Maghamaas is used as an occasion of Aksharabhyas. This is known as Haathe Khori or Vidyarambh.

The Aksharabhyasam is known more popularly as Ezhuthiniruthu in Kerala.
