Sri Jambukeswarar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located about two kilometres from Srirangam temple.This is also known as Thiruvanikka. It is a Jala Lingam and Kshetra is called Appu Stalam and one of the Panchbhuta lingams. The temple is believed to have been built and developed by Cholas in 11th CE and received continued royal patronage. The Kshetra is situated between two rivers Cauvery and Kolidam. According to legends, Parvati once cursed by Lord Shiva did penance here in the Jambu forests and consecrated the Jalalingam here.
