Sri Vishnusahasranama describes the Lord as “SuvarNa varNO hEmAngaha”, which means the Lord has a golden complexion. Kanakabhisheka is the anointment of the Lord with Gold coins. It is a symbolic expression of one’s devotion to the Lord. Similarly, Kanakabhisheka is also offered to the Guru, who is the remover of ignorance and giver of knowledge, with utmost devotion.

“ಸುವರ್ಣವರ್ಣೋ ಹೇಮಾಂಗಃ” ಎಂದು ವಿಷ್ಣುಸಹಸ್ರನಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುವಂತೆ ಭಗವಂತನ ದೇಹವು ಬಂಗಾರವರ್ಣಮಯವಾದುದು. ಭಕ್ತನು ಶಕ್ತ್ಯನುಸಾರ ದೇವರನ್ನು ಸರ್ವೋತ್ತಮನೆಂದು ಆದರಿಸಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವುದೇ ಕನಕಾಭಿಷೇಕದ ಸಂಕೇತ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ಅಜ್ಞಾನ ನಾಶಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ವಿದ್ಯಾಪ್ರದರು ಆದ ಗುರುಗಳಿಗೂ ಕನಕಾಭಿಷೇಕವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವಿದೆ.
