A light is the witness for the activities of all sensory organs. No worship or spiritual activity can be taken up without lighting a lamp. Offering Til or other oil for the Nanda Deepa, which should be compulsorily lit in temples and Puja Rooms, is called as Taila (oil) Nandadeepa Seva.

ತೈಲ ಅಥವಾ ಘೃತ ದೀಪವು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕರ್ಮಾಂಗಗಳಿಗು ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದು. ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿಸದೇ ಯಾವ ದೈವೀ-ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ, ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೂಜಾಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ದೀಪವೊಂದು ಸದಾ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿರಬೇಕು. ನಂದಾದೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಎಳ್ಳೆಣ್ಣೆ ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ತೈಲವನ್ನು ಸೇವಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ತೈಲ ನಂದಾದೀಪ ಸೇವೆಯೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
