Importance of Rudraabhishekam

Abhisheka, also called Abhishekam, is conducted by priests, by pouring libations on the image of Lord Shiva being worshipped, amidst the chanting of Mantras. Anointment of the deity with milk, curds, honey, ghee, sugar and fruits is known as Panchamrita Abhisheka.  By offering Panchamrit, to the Lord, thoughts of your body diminish. Selfishness slowly vanishes. You derive immense joy. Therefore, the self-surrender come in. Naturally, there is an outpouring from your heart. This is said to result in growth of devotion and adoration for the deity and eventually lead to with pure abundant flow of love towards God.

Rudra, as mentioned in the Rig Vedas is the most ancient form of Lord Shiva. Maha Rudrabhisheka is the most favourite pooja offered to Lord Shiva. Rudrabhishekam Puja is performed with the prescribed ingredients such as honey, curd ghee and milk with chants on the Sri Rudram. The puja wipes out all sins and purifies the atmosphere. It also removes all sorts of planetary doshams.
