More About Rudra Homa
Rudra Homa stands as a powerful fire ceremony that combines cosmic divine energy, spiritual invocation, and holistic well-being. Dedicated to Lord Rudra, a fierce and compassionate form of Lord Shiva, this sacred fire ritual is renowned for promoting health, attracting prosperity, and cleansing negative energies.
Puranas state that Rudra Homa is a conduit for divine blessings, ensuring physical wellness, emotional balance, and spiritual growth.
Rudra, often referred to as the “destroyer of evil,” embodies the dual aspects of destruction and renewal, symbolizing the removal of negativity and the creation of positive energies. Rudra is associated with the purifying power of fire and is revered as the deity who eradicates suffering and restores balance.
The chanting of the Rudram generates vibrations that align the practitioner’s energy with universal forces, amplifying the ritual’s impact. The mantras also act as a meditative tool, calming the mind and enhancing focus.
Historical Background | Kedaara Harihara Kshetra Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple | Udupi
Sri Kedara Mahalingeshwara Temple in Udupi is an ancient temple believed to have been renovated by Balla Mahadevi of Alupa dynasty, who ruled this region of Tulunadu. An inscription with 25 lines in Kannada is believed to have been found here during the developmental activities carried out, which mentions the grant of lands and monetary support by the queen.
Puranic Background of Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple
The reason for consecration of Shivalingam by sages, on the banks of Papanashini river, is believed to have been due to the difficulties faced by the devotees and Shiva Bhaktas for Kailas Yatra to Kedarnath temple.
The presence of Shambhu Shaila Hills to the north of River Papanashini, the installation of Lord Brahma in the South East here has been collected from the Skanda Puranam. The principal deity installed here is called Sri Kedaara Harihara Mahalingeshwara or simply Kedara Harihareshwara.
Maha Shivaratri Significance
Maha Shivaratri represents many facets of Lord Shiva and his acts. Rudrabhishekam is performed in four time periods during Maha Shivaratri and is known as “Yaam” while chanting Sri Rudram. Hence, this procedure is also known as ‘Yaam Puja’. Kailash Yantra is drawn with rice-flour and offered obeisance.
Rudra, as mentioned in the Rig Vedas is the most ancient form of Lord Shiva. Maha Rudrabhisheka is the most favourite pooja offered to Lord Shiva.
Lord Rudra is known as Abhishekapriya as he loves Abhisheka or anointment with holy water. Sacred Kalashas are filled with water and the presence of Varuna and holy rivers namely Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri are invoked into the water. With that water alone the Lord will be anointed by chanting the hymns, especially the Rudra Chamaka.
