Importance of Guru Paada Puja

Doing Pranams to the Lotus Feet of Guru is a very ancient custom of the Hindu Sanatan Dharma. It is said that when Our Ajjna Chakra present in our forehead comes in contact with the Master’s Lotus Feet, cosmic energy is said to transfer from feet to Ajjna Chakra. This is known as Shaktipaat. By offering Pranam to such holy enlightened masters, one completely surrenders the self, thereby implying the readiness to receive the transient energy from Guru. Offering milk to such Lotus feet results in hastening the God’s benevolence towards us.

Shirdi Sai Baba

Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi was a saint who lived in the 19^th Century. Though, he never stepped out of the regions outside Kopargaon in the Maharashtra state, devotees from all over the world visit Shirdi to pay their obeisance to his Samadhi (Meaning: Grave). Sri Sai Baba is praised as an ‘Avadhuta’ (Meaning: A liberated soul) and many books have been published about his life and teachings. The biographical book ‘Sri Sai Satcharita’ by Sri Govind Raghunath Dabholkar, who was addressed by Sri Sai as ‘Hemad Pant’ has been translated into many languages bears testimony to the life and miracles of this great saint of the modern times. Guru Purnima is celebrated as a very important festival in Shirdi.

Shirdi is a small village in the Rahata taluk of Ahmednagar District in Maharashtra. Shirdi village is famous for the saint Sri Sai Baba who lived and attained Samadhi. 2018 is the centenary year of his attaining Samadhi on Vijaya Dashami. Footprints of Sri Saibaba have made this town a holy place. The holy saint always preached the importance of equality and peace. ‘Sab ka malik Ek’, Shraddha- Saburi (Faith and perseverance) were some of his famous sayings.
