Performing THILA HOMA as a “MAHAPRAYASCHITHTHA”, to cleanse and purify the souls of all our departed ancestors is the most noblest act and gesture an individual can show towards his or her forefathers. Thila homam is a Vedic ritual performed to bring Moksha (Peace) to souls thereby bringing in the benevolence of Pitru Devatas. Several Hindu and Vedic literature such as Bodhayana Dharmasutra and Grhya sutra, Jaiminiya Grhya sutra and Garuda Purana refer to the use of black Thila (sesame) seeds. Garuda Purana and Bhavishya Purana throw light about sesame. Sesame seed is associated with Lord Vishnu and Sesame oil (Gingelly oil) is associated with his consort Maha Lakshmi.

Importance of Thila Homam On Mahalaya Amavasya 

According to Hindu Puranas, on this day of Mahalaya Amavasya, Lord Vishnu permits the departed souls to visit earth (Bhuloka). Those who missed the Shradh and tarpanam of ancestors can offer oblations on this Mahalaya Amavasya day. Performing Thila Homam on the Mahalaya Amavasya day, is said to be of great benefits to the Kartru (One who performs) and the Pitrus. It also helps to attain moksha for the departed soul and removes obstacles & bestows all fortunes and good health upon the karta.

Importance of Gau Puja | Gau Graasa
