Importance of Vaikunth Ekadashi

Vaikunth Ekadashi is the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha Fortnight during Dhanurmaasam. This is an important day for the followers of Lord Vishnu, practicing Vishnu Panchakam.

It is believed that Vaikuntha Dwaram is open on this day in the abode of Lord Vishnu. Devotees believe that taking the darshan of the Lord on this day passing through Vaikuntha Dwaram in the temple is akin to reaching the Vaikunta.

Vikuntha is a Sanskrit word meaning “no shortage”. Performing fast on the eleventh day during the season of plenty, dedicating it to the Supreme Conscious is said to bring in a lot of health benefits.

Ekadashi and its importance

Ekadashi or the eleventh day occurs twice a month in the Hindu calendar and in a year 24 days are observed as Ekadashi. This is considered a day to cleanse the body, aid repair and rejuvenation and is usually observed by partial or complete fast. This period of abstinence starts from sunrise on the day of Ekadashi to sunrise on the following day. Those who fast on this day are said to rid of malefic planetary influences, experience happiness, and gain peace of mind and attain Moksha (the Salvation). Ekadashi Vrat is also known as Vrat-Trayam.

Importance of Ghee in the Hindu Sanatan Dharma

Ghee or Ghritam is a product obtained from the cow’s milk. The Cow or Gau has been given a special place in the Hindu traditions. She is revered for the presence of all Devatas (Gods and Goddesses) in her body and as a nourisher. The cow’s ghee forms an important part of Sanatan Dharma since, it is used for lighting Deepam (Diyas), as offering to all the Gods through the Havissu (A sacred offering) in Havan, Homa, Yajjna or Yaag. It is also used in preparation of many kinds of Naivedyam (Bhog).

Agni Puran clearly states that Ghee (clarified butter) be used in the Deepam for pujas.

Why cow ghee is used in Deepam?

It is a way of spreading joy, prosperity, happiness, and brightness. It also helps in removing the negative energy or vitalities present in the region. Ghee is an essential factor while we conduct pujas. We can use it in Prasadas and most often we use it to light lamps.
