This area was a famous cultural center in the past and was blessed by the auspicious presence of three renowned temples located nearby, The Anikkulangara Sree Durga Temple, Kulangara Devi Temple and Purandarapuram Vishnu Temple. During the invasion of Tippu Sultan, the villagers were forced to flee from here. The soldiers of Tippu destroyed the three temples and for long time was left without attention. Approximately 175 years back, the Mankkadan family settled here and found the remnants of Anikkulagara temple and reinstated it. Under the presidency of Mankkadan family, the Poojas restarted in the temple. In 1985, the Kshethra Samrakshana Samithi , took over the administration from the family. After that, with an abundance of public support, the deity was consecrated and the Dwaja prathishta was also done, now the temple is one among the Maha Kshethras.
