In the earlier stages, Mattalil Bhagawathi was the ‘Paradevatha’ of Mattalil Family. On the eastern-side of the temple, there was one big Palamaram, on the eastern side a Nagathara in a mini forestry atmosphere, in the central part a jasmine floor and also a sacred pond. Around the jasmine floor, in red stones, different moorthis were being worshipped. In the annual festival times, there was slaughtering of cocks and conjurations etc. And, it was all going without a real temple accuracy and atmosphere. In 1912 Sri Narayana Gurudeva was arriving at a near place, Chilavannur. A group of people, including many seniors forwarded before him their grievances; they really had not got a temple in that area. Gurudevan was then pointing out a place wherein he could foresee a brightening splendor of Devi out of long former pujas. In the result, the people got a holy spiritual centre, Mattalil Bhagawathi Temple.
