This temple is blessed with many interesting legends behind. The then day’s thampuran of Edapply had to appear personally in the temples of Edappali regency and in his presence the fests were to be celebrated in those times. Accordingly, once the king of Edappali reaching Thrikkunnappuzha Dharmashastha temple in the festive occassion had an unusual dream. The Devi was urging the ruler in dream, her wish to come upto Edappalli kovilakam as to get seated near Ganapathi kovil therein. After an astrological analysis, the Thampuran took the Devi idol in his return. An accidentall fall of the idol of Durga was there in the Palliyodakkadavu which was used mainly by the palace people. One more prashna charthu at Edappalli was suggesting the king and others to enshrine the Devi idol at the same place where it was falling down earlier. ഒന്നിലധികം ഐതീഹ്യങ്ങളാല്‍ അനുഗൃഹീതമാണ് പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇടപ്പള്ളി കേന്ദ്രമായി ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന എളങ്ങള്ളൂര്‍ സ്വരൂപത്തിന്റേതായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ തമ്പുരാന്‍ നേരിട്ടെഴുന്നള്ളി അതാത് ഉത്സവം നടത്തുകയായിരുന്നു അന്ന്‍ നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന കീഴ്വഴക്കം. അത് പ്രകാരം തൃക്കുന്നപ്പുഴ ധര്‍മ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവാവസരത്തില്‍ അവിടെയെത്തിച്ചേര്‍ന്ന ഇടപ്പള്ളി വലിയ രാജാവിന് ഭഗവതിയുടെ സ്വപ്ന ദര്‍ശനമുണ്ടായി. ഇടപ്പള്ളി കോവിലകത്തേക്ക് ഗണപതി ഇരിക്കുന്ന കരയിലേക്ക് ദേവി ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു, അതിനാല്‍ തൃക്കുന്നപ്പുഴയില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ ദേവിയും കൂടി കൊണ്ട് പോരണം എന്നതായിരുന്നു സ്വപ്നദര്‍ശനം. തുടര്‍ന്ന്‍ നടന്ന പ്രശ്ന വിചാരങ്ങളില്‍ ഇക്കാര്യം വ്യക്തമായത് കൊണ്ട് തമ്പുരാന്‍ ഇടപ്പള്ളിയിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിയെത്തിയത് ഒരു ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹത്തോട് ഒന്നിച്ചായിരുന്നു. തമ്പുരാന്‍മാര്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന പള്ളിയോടപ്പുരക്കടവില്‍ തമ്പുരാന്‍ വന്നിറങ്ങുന്ന സമയം യാദൃശ്ചികമായി തമ്പുരാന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ നിന്നും പെരണ്ട് വീണ ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹം, പിന്നീട് നടന്ന ദേവപ്രശ്ന വിധിപ്രകാരം, അവിടെ തന്നെ യഥാവിധി പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
