The historical evidences reveal that the temple’s history is dated back to 1200 Year’s. The Bommarubettu, a small village was ruled by the King Paddamu Beedu. The temple was built during his reign. Over a period of time, the temple administration was handed over to Sri Sri Sudheendra Tirtha {also called as Shathayushigalu}, the sage of Puthige Matha. The entire temple administration is now administered by the present Peetadhipadhi of Sri Puthige Matha. ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಷ್ಣು ಮೂರ್ತಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸರಿ ಸುಮಾರು 1200 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಇತಿಹಾಸವುಳ್ಳದ್ದು. ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪುಟ್ಟಗ್ರಾಮವು ಪಡ್ದಾಮು ಬೀಡು ಅರಸರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿತೆಂಬ ಐತಿಹ್ಯವಿದ್ದು, ಆ ರಾಜನೇ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನೂ ಸಹ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಿದನು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಲ ನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮವು ಉಡುಪಿ ಅಷ್ಟಮಠಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾದ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠದ ಅಂದಿನ ಯತಿಗಳಾದ ಪರಮಪೂಜ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಧೀಂದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥ (ಶತಾಯುಷಿಗಳು) ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿ ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತೆಂಬ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖವಿದೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠವೇ ಈ ಗುಡಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ.
