According to the History, it is found that Chandra, cursed by "Dhaksha Prajeshwara" worshipped Lord Sri Eshwara, who appeared in Pushkarini {Sacred Pond} located infront of the Anantheshwara Temple. As a mark of this incident, the temple is built in the same place, dedicated to lord Sri Eshwara, after desiccating the pond. Hence the Temple premises is little low to the actual ground surface.
