It is believed that this sacred place, once known as “Sthuthiyoor” meaning full with enchanting praising the God, later was called “Thuthiyoor”.The temple claims a history of 400 years. The temple belonged to the Palliyath Mana in the early years and later was added to the Alakkat Mana,which was in Northern boundary.It is believed that, the Acharya who used to do the Pujas those days, was removed from service and it led to his curse which fell upon the male lineage of Alakkat Mana. The pujas and daily activities of the temple came to an end with destruction of the male lineage. Later, about 150 years back from now, Peramana Vasudevan Namboodiri, came here and took the temple chores. The present day Ooranma belongs to his family. In 1984, the Kshethra Samrakshana Samithi took over the temple administration and formed a committee with participation of the devotees and public. Under the committee an Ashtamangala Prasna was held and the temple was reconstructed including the maintenance of the Sanctum sanctorum. ഏകദേശം 400 വര്‍ഷത്തിന് മുകളില്‍ പഴക്കമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. ദേവസ്തുതികളാല്‍ മുഖരിതമായ സ്തുതിയൂര്‍ എന്ന നാമം ലോപിച്ച് തുതിയൂര്‍ ആയി എന്നാണ് പഴമൊഴി. പള്ളിയത്ത് മനവക ക്ഷേത്ര മായിരുന്നു ഇത്. കാലാന്തരത്തില്‍ ഇല്ലം വoശാന്തം വരികയും ക്ഷേത്ര ത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന അളയ്ക്കാട്ട് മനയിലേക്ക് ലയി ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ആ കാലത്ത് പൂജാദി കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ആചാര്യനെ മാറ്റുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശാപം ഏല്‍ക്കുകയും, പൂജക ളൊന്നും നടക്കാതെയും ദൈനംദിന കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുടക്കം വരുകയും, ആളയ്ക്കാട്ടില്ലം ആണ്‍ സന്തതികള്‍ ഇല്ലാതെ നശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഏകദേശം 150 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു മുന്‍പ് ക്ഷേത്ര പൂജാദികള്‍ക്കായി പേരമന വാസുദേവന്‍ നമ്പൂതിരി ഇവിടെ വരികയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകായും ചെയ്തു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സന്തതി പരമ്പരയാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ ക്ഷേത്ര ഊരാഴ്മക്കാര്‍. പിന്നീട് 1984 ല്‍ ക്ഷേത്ര സംരക്ഷണസമിതി ക്ഷേത്രം ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയും ഭക്തജനങ്ങളുടെ കമ്മിറ്റി രൂപികരിച്ച് പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം മുന്‍പോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോയി. അഷ്ടമംഗല പ്രശ്നവിധി പ്രകാരം ക്ഷേത്ര ശ്രീകോവിലിനു സംഭവിച്ച ചരിവ് മാറ്റുകയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ പുനര്‍ നിര്‍മ്മാണം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
