Chandramouleshwar is a 900-year-old temple from the Badami Chalukyan era. It was built on the lines of Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal temples, is a Monument of National Importance, and is designated as a Protected Monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites (Act (1958)) by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Unlike other Shiva temples in the North Karnataka region, the Chandramouleshwar Temple has four doors in as many directions, altogether accounting for twelve doors in the temple besides two Shivalingams and two Naandi statutes at the entrance. One of the two lingams is the 'Chaturmukha Lingam', a four-faced Shiva lingam, which is the speciality of the temple. Chaturlingam The temple has sculpted walls and pillars of black granite stones. Images of dancing Lord Ganesha and jaalandhra at are a visual delight. The architectural style that developed in this part is known as the Chalukya style.

Unkal is known to be Karma Bhoomi of Shri Siddappajja, who was born in the year 1859 and left home when he was 14 years old in search of Guru. He resided in Unkal Mailarlinga Temple and died on 31-01-1921. Since then Jatra (mela) is held every year. Unkal Lake is also the major source of drinking water for Hubli. Watching the sun set and rise from the lake is an enthralling experience. In the evenings, the lake is virtually a fair ground with various kinds of entertainment and food stalls lining the lake. Centre of the lake is situated the statue of Swami Vivekananda which is the prime attraction of the lake. It has recreational facilities for children. You can enjoy a boat ride here. The Unkal lake , however, is large enough to accommodate all visitors as well as the hawkers. Unkal Lake in Hubli is a beautiful picnic spot.
