Belur is on the shores of Yagachi river in Hassan district of Karnataka. Belur was earlier known as Velapuri. It is also popular as Varanasi of the South. The ancient Chennakeshava temple here is famous for its architectural beauty. The Chennakeshava idol in this temple is 12 feet tall. There are rare temples of Pancha Anjaneya and Panchalingeshwara in Belur. ಬೇಲೂರು ಹಾಸನ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯಗಚಿ ನದಿಯ ದಡದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಪೂರ್ವ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ವೇಲಾಪುರೀ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇದನ್ನು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ವಾರಾಣಾಸಿ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ತನ್ನ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದಿ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವನ ವಿಗ್ರಹವು 12 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರವಿದೆ. ಬೇಲೂರಿನ ಸುತ್ತಲು ಬಹಳ ಅಪರೂಪವಾದ ಪಂಚ ಆಂಜನೇಯ ಹಾಗು ಪಂಚಲಿಂಗೇಶ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿದೆ. ಬೇಲೂರು ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ಪ್ರಥಮ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.
