ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕದ ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಪೆರ್ಡೂರುನಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಉಡುಪಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಬ್ರಿ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಪೆರ್ಡೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮವಿದೆ. ಶ್ರೀಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅನಂತಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ಈ ಊರು ಅಂದೂ-ಇಂದೂ ನಾಡಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತವಾಗಿರುವುದು. ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಕೃಷ್ಣಶರ್ಮ ಎಂಬುವರು ಕಟ್ಟಿದರೆಂದು ಸ್ಥಳಪುರಾಣವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾದದ್ದು ಆರು ಅಥವಾ ಏಳನೇ ಶತಮಾನವೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಮೂಲವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಪೆರ್ಡುರುಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣಹೆಬ್ಬಾರ್ ಎಂಬುವರು ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆಂದು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿರುವ ಲಿಖಿತ ಆಧಾರಗಳು ಹೇಳಿವೆ. ಅನಂತರ, ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಬಾನಂಪಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಾಮವನ್ನು ರಾಜ ವಿಜಯಪ್ಪ ಒಡೆಯರ್ ಉಂಬಳಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿದರೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಬಂದಿದೆ. ಶಂಖ, ಚಕ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಯಹಸ್ತದೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ದೇವರ ಎರಡು ಅಡಿ ಮೂಲವಿಗ್ರಹವು ನೋಡಲು ಬಲು ಚಲುವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಅಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ೧೪೫೮ರ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭರ ಮೂಲವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು “ಜನಾರ್ಧನ ದೇವ” ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ೧೫೨೦ಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಅದೇ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಶಾಸನ ಸ್ಪಸ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಮೂಲವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು “ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ’ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟು ಕರೆದಿದೆ. Lord Anantha Padmanabha's temple is situated at Sri Kshetra Perdoor, a village in Udupi district of Karnataka. The village is located between Udupi and Hebri towns. The village Perdur is at a distance of 20 KM from Udupi and 32 KM from Hebri. The village is famous for its ancient temple of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy. Devotees consider Lord Anantha Padmanathaa at the temple as a powerful god. According to Sthala Purana, the Temple has been built by Krishnasharma, a Brahmin, lived in the province of Kotikunja ruled by Raja Shankara. The temple is said to be as old as of 6-7th century. And Lord Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy idol is said to be consecrated during the sixth or seventh century. The Kaipheat of Dakshina Kannada District, found by Col .Kalis Mekenji around 200 years back i.e. during the period of 1754-1821, it is mentioned that one Sri Krishna Hebbar of Perdur Magane consecrated the temple idol and later Raja Vijayappa Wadeyar gave Banampalli village as `Umbali' to the temple for its maintenance. The deity of Lord Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is of 2 feet height with Shanka Chakra and Abhaya Hasta and it looks very beautiful and attractive to the visiting devotees. The stone inscription of 1458 in the temple calls the deity as "Janardhana Deva" in the beginning and "Ananta Deva" at the end. However another inscription of 1520 has clearly called the lord as "Sri Anantha Padmanabha."
