About Temple

Manarcaud Devi Temple is an ancient temple situated at Manarcaud-Kidangoor Road, near Manarcaud church, 1.5 KM away in the Northern direction from Manarcaud Junction. One can reach Manarcaud Junction by travelling 10 KM distance from Kottayam town in the Southern Side, through NH 220. By tradition, it is said that Kodungallooramma with her supreme power and strength is residing here in the temple. On normal days, devi vigraha will be decorated with Panchaloha Anky and on Special Occasions, with Thanka Anky. A sword is installed on the northern side of the temple in Vasoorimala concept and the door there is never opened.The Kannadi Prathishta of Bhadrakali here is in her bhava after slaying the demon Darika. Kannadi Prathishta is the idolization of a deity in a stone engraved in the shape of a Mirror.
The presiding deity is Goddess Durga and together with her, Vasoorimala, Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Kshethrapalakan, Yakshis (one among them is supposed to be ‘Kalliyankattu Neeli’ who once helped King Marthanda Varma) and many Upaprathishtas are inside the temple complex. On the southern part, there is another temple with Sri Dharma Sastha as primary deity and Sri Ganapathi, Lord Subrahmanyan etc as sub deities. On the Southern part of Ganapathi Sreekovil, the Panchamoorthy Thara, Saptha Mathas and Sarpa Sthanam are also enshrined.
Kumbha-Bharani, Meena-Bharani and Pathamudayam are the main Annual festivals here. Meena-Bharani is considered as the birthdate of the presiding Goddess Bhadrakali. Kalam Karikkal and Bharani Sadya (the Pirannal Sadya of Devi) are conducted on this particular day. The ‘Kalkazhukichoottu’ is to memorise the great Brahmin who brought Goddess Bhadrakali to Manarcaud from Kodungalloor. From Vrishchikam 1st onwards, there will be 41 days long Kalampattu and other ceremonial submissions in Dharmasastha temple. On the last day, grand rituals like Ooruvalathezhunnallathu, Desaguruthi and Parakkezhunnallathu are conducted.

കോട്ടയം ടൗണിൽ നിന്നും പത്തു കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്ക് NH 220-ൽ മണർകാട് ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്നും ഒന്നര കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്കുമാറി മണർകാട് – കിടങ്ങൂർ റോഡിൽ മണര്കാട് പള്ളിക്ക് സമീപം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന അതിപുരാതന ഉപാസനാ കേന്ദ്രമാണ് മണര്കാട് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരമ്മയുടെ ശക്തിവിശേഷം തന്നെയാണ് ഇവിടേയും കുടികൊള്ളുന്നത് എന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. സാധാരണദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പഞ്ചലോഹ അങ്കിയും വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളിൽ തങ്ക അങ്കിയും ചാർത്തുകയാണ് പതിവ് . ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്തായി, വസൂരിമാല സങ്കല്പത്തിൽ ഒരു വാൾ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ വടക്കുവശത്തെ വാതിൽ തുറക്കാറില്ല. ബിംബപ്രാസാദങ്ങളിൽ കവിഞ്ഞുള്ള അതീവ ചൈതന്യസവിശേഷതയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത. ദാരികനിഗ്രഹം നടത്തിയ ഭദ്രകാളി സങ്കൽപ്പത്തില് കണ്ണാടിബിംബത്തിലാണ് ദേവീ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. സർവാഭീഷ്ഠ വരദായിനിയാണ് അമ്മ.

പ്രധാനപ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ ദുർഗാഭഗവതിയോടൊപ്പം വസൂരിമാല, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, ക്ഷേത്രപാലകൻ, യക്ഷികൾ (ഒരു യക്ഷി മാർത്താണ്ഡവർമ്മ മഹാരാജാവിനെ സഹായിച്ച പഞ്ചവങ്കാട്ട് നീലിയാണെന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു) ഉപപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ക്ഷേത്രസമുശ്ചയത്തിലുണ്ട്. അതോടൊപ്പം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തെക്കുഭാഗത്തായി പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് തുല്യം പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രവും നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. ഇവിടെ ശ്രീഗണപതി, ശ്രീസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ തുടങ്ങിയവരാണ് ഉപദേവന്മാർ. ഗണപതിക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തെക്കുഭാഗത്തായി പഞ്ചമൂർത്തിത്തറയും, സപ്തമാതൃക്കളും, സര്പ്പസ്ഥാനവും ഉണ്ട്.

കുംഭഭരണി, മീനഭരണി, പത്താമുദയം തുടങ്ങിയവയാണ് പ്രധാന ദിവസങ്ങൾ. മീനഭരണി ദേവിയുടെ പിറന്നാളാണ്. കലംകരിക്കലും ഭരണിസദ്യയും അന്നേദിവസത്തെ പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ്. ദേവിയുടെ പിറന്നാൾ സദ്യയാണ് ഭരണിസദ്യ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് . ഭഗവതിയെ കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരിൽ നിന്നും ആനയിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ബ്രഹ്മണശ്രേഷ്ഠന്റെ സ്മരണയ്ക്കായി മിഥുനമാസം തൃക്കേട്ടനാളിൽ കാല്കഴുകിച്ചൂട്ടും നടത്തുന്നു. ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധമായ പത്താമുദയമഹോത്സവം മേടം പത്തിനാണ് നടന്നു വരുന്നത്.

ശ്രീധര്മ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് വൃശ്ചികം ഒന്ന് മുതൽ അമ്പത്തൊന്നു ദിവസം കളംപാട്ടും സമാപന ദിവസം ഊരുവലത്തെഴുന്നള്ളത്തും ദേശഗുരുതികളും പറയ്ക്കെഴുന്നള്ളത്തും നടത്തുന്ന പതിവുണ്ട്.
