Rameswaram is one of the holiest places in India - one of twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dhams. It is separated by a small Pamban from Sri Lanka. According to the Hindu mythology, this is the place where Lord Rama created a bridge across the sea to Sri Lanka to defeat the demon Ravana. Renowned for its magnificent and massive sculptured pillars on either side, the Ramanathaswamy Temple houses the longest corridor in the world.
Madurai is one of the oldest cities of India and was ruled by Pandya kings over most of its history. The place has a great cultural heritage and strong mythological history. The famous Meenakshi Temple is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi with a sanctum for her consort, Sundareshwarar.
