Nalpathenneeshwaran Sri Mahadeva Temple, in Aleppy-Cherthala District of Kerala,is one among the 108 shrines devoted to Lord Shiva,is a blessing for the devotees. Daily five poojas are proffered to swarm the blessings of Lord Shiva.Temple dips in festive spirit in the month of Kumbham in Uthrattathi Starday and ends by Arattu Utsavam in Thiruvathira Star.Prior to relish the festival, 12 kalasham and Thiruvathira is celebrated with great pomp and rejoicing.Lord Ganapati & Lord Varahamurthi within the temple are consecrated as sub dieties. Outside the main temple premise,Lord Ayyappa, Lord Durga Devi, Naga Gods, Brahma Rakshas and the North Mars (Vadakk Chowa) are blessing the devotees splendidly.
In the northern side, Uraliparambathu Sri Dharma Shasta Temple, is located,where Sri DharamShasta Swamy with sword (churika) in the right hand and bow &arrow in the left hand is worshipped. Tripunitura Puliyannoor Manakkal is the strategic part of the temple. Though,the history/orgin of the Sri Nalpathennishan temple cannot deemed by ages. in the ancient times,the entire region was surrounded by lush green forests and the legacy tells that Pandavas arrived here duting the time of exile.
108 ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നെന്ന സവിശേഷതയും പേറി ഭക്തര്‍ക്ക് അനുഗ്രഹങ്ങള്‍ പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന നാല്‍പ്പത്തെണ്ണീശ്വരത്തപ്പന്‍, ഭക്ത ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ കരനാഥനാണ്. 5 പൂജകള്‍ ദിവസേനയുള്ള ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ കുംഭമാസത്തിലാണ് ഭഗവാന്‍റെ തിരുവുല്‍സവം. കുംഭത്തിലെ ഉതൃട്ടാതി, വൈകീട്ട് കോടി കയറി സമാരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഉത്സവം, തിരുവാതിര ആറാട്ടോടെ വൈകീട്ട് പര്യവസാനിക്കുന്നു. വൈദീക ചടങ്ങുകള്‍ കൊണ്ട് സമ്പുഷ്ടമായ ഉത്സവത്തിന്‌ മുന്നോടിയായി ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ നടന്നുവരുന്ന 12 കലശവും തിരുവാതിര ആചരണവും ഭഗവാന് പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടതാണ്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുള്ളില്‍ ഗണപതിയേയും വരാഹമൂര്‍ത്തിയേയും ഉപദേവതകളായി പ്രതി ഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‌ വെളിയില്‍ അയ്യപ്പനും, രൌദ്രഭാവത്തിലുള്ള ദുര്‍ഗ്ഗാ ദേവിയും, നാഗദൈവങ്ങളും, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സിനേയും, മതിലിനു പുറത്തായി വടക്കന്‍ ചൊവ്വയേയും ഉപദേവതാ സങ്കല്പത്തില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറായി മറ്റൊരു ഉപദേവതാ ക്ഷേത്രമായ ഊരാളിപറമ്പത്ത് ശ്രീ ധര്‍മ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. വലതുകയ്യില്‍ ചുരികയും, ഇടതുകയ്യില്‍ വില്ലും അമ്പുമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന വിഗ്രഹമാണ് ശ്രീ ധര്‍മ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലുള്ളത്. മണ്ഡല, മകരവിളക്ക് കാലത്ത്, കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള പൂജാവിധാനങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ട് സമ്പുഷ്ടങ്ങളാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പഠിത്തരവും.
തൃപ്പൂണിത്തുറ പുലിയന്നൂര്‍ മനയ്ക്കല്‍ ആണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ തന്ത്രാവകാശം. പുലിയ ന്നൂര്‍ മനയ്ക്കല്‍ ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ ശശിധരന്‍ തിരുമേനിയാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇവിടുത്തെ തന്ത്രി. മാളികപ്പുറത്തമ്മയുടെ അറപ്പകാനായി ഒരു വര്‍ഷക്കാലം സേവനമനുഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ശ്രീ രാജീവി തിരുമേനിയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ മേല്‍ശാന്തി.
