Sri Puthige Matha is one of the Astha Matha’s of Udupi. The origin of the Sri Puthige Matha is located at Puttige Village in Hiriadka of Udupi District.
According to the History “Sri Sri Upendra Tirtha” is the direct disciple of “Sri Sri Madhwacharya”, founder of Dwaitha Philosophy. “Sri Sri Upendra Tirtha” is said to be the founder of the mutt. “Sri Puthige Matha” is located on the banks of Suvarna river, houses “Lord Sri Narasimha” as the original deity. Other idols of God including Lord Ganapathi , idols of Sri Puthige Samsthana and Pranadevaru are consecrated in the Matha’s vicinity.
Brundavan’s of sages, who were a part of Sri Puthige Matha legacy, can be found within the Matha’s premises. Vidhyapeeta is established by the present pontiff of Sri Puthige Matha, with an aim to offer free Boarding and Education for Students.
ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠ ಉಡುಪಿಯ ಅಷ್ಟಮಠಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ಈ ಮಠದ ಮೂಲ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ ವಿರುವ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮವು ಹಿರಿಯಡ್ಕ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು, ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದೆ.
ದ್ವೈತ ಮತ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥರು ಈ ಮಠದ ಮೂಲ ಪುರುಷರು. ಈ ಮಠವು ಸುವರ್ಣಾನದೀ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠದ ಮೂಲ ದೇವರಾದ ನರಸಿಂಹ ದೇವರು, ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ ಮೂರುತಿಗಳು, ರಜತ ಪೀಠ, ಗಣಪತಿ ದೇವರು, ಪ್ರಾಣದೇವರ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠದ ಪರಂಪರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದ ಅನೇಕ ಯತಿಗಳ ಬೃಂದಾವನವೂ ಸಹ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದಂಗಳವರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಪೀಠವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ವಸತಿ ಹಾಗು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
