Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangapatna is an ancient religious temple at distance of 20Kms from the cultural capital of Karnataka Mysuru and about 128 kms from the political capital of Karnataka Bengaluru. Main deity Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy is a huge idol depicted in a sleeping position on coiled, seven-hooded Adishesha and attended by Ranganayaki and Kaveri near his lotus-feet. The history of the temple is believed to be more than 11 centuries. This temple is more popularly called Adiranga kshetra among the Pancharangakshetras.
ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾದ ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 20 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 128 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದ ಶ್ರೀರಂಗಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ಪುರಾತನ ದೇವಾಲಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಆರಾಧ್ಯದೈವ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿಶೇಷವೇನೆಂದರೆ, ಬೃಹತ್ತಾದ ಶಿಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಏಳುಹೆಡೆಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಆದಿಶೇಷನ ಮೇಲೆ ಪವಡಿಸಿದ್ದು ರಂಗನಾಯಕಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾವೇರಿಯರು ಪಾದಾಂಬುಜಗಳ ಬಳಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಸುಮಾರು 11 ಶತಕಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆಯೆಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪಂಚರಂಗಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾದ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಆದಿರಂಗಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವೆಂದು ಆದರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
