During their Vanavasa Period, Pandavas performed Prathishta of their guide and helping hand Lord Sri Krishna on five different places. Thodupuzha Sri Krishna temple is where the eldest one Yudhisthira performed the Prathishta. Bhima performed Prathishta at Kolani Vishnu temple, Arjuna, the closest friend of Sri Krishna at Muttom Sri Krishna temple, Nakula at Edavetty and Sahadeva, the youngest at Perumpillichira temple. The Prathishtas made by the sons of Kunthi were seemed facing east while those by the sons of Madri were seemed facing west. It was said that the Idol at Edavetty disappeared once. Later a great saint of that holy place performed a Yaga when the village suffered from drought. As a result of the Yaga rain started to fall and the Yaga Bhoomi (the place where Yaga was performed) flooded with rainwater. When the water level dropped, the Sri Krishna Idol that was once lost, found placed in between two Vetty trees (bodh trees). Since the Idol was found in between two Vetty Trees, the temple was called Edavetty thereafter. പഞ്ചപാണ്ഡവർ തങ്ങളുടെ വനവാസകാലത്ത് തങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷാമൂർത്തിയും വഴികാട്ടിയുമായിരുന്ന ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണഭഗവാനെ അഞ്ചിടങ്ങളിലായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചുവത്രെ. ജ്യേഷ്ഠപാണ്ഡവനായ യുധിഷ്ഠിരൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയ തൊടുപുഴ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രം, ഭീമസേനൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച കോലാനി വിഷ്ണുക്ഷേത്രം, മധ്യമനും ഭഗവദ്സഖാവുമായ അർജ്ജുനൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച മുട്ടം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം , നകുലൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച ഇടവെട്ടി ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണക്ഷേത്രം ഒടുവിൽ സഹദേവൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച പെരുമ്പിള്ളിച്ചിറ ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവയാണ് ആ അഞ്ചു ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ . ഇവയിൽ കുന്തീപുത്രന്മാർ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം കിഴക്കോട്ടു ദർശനമായും മാദ്രീ പുത്രന്മാർ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ പടിഞ്ഞാട്ടു ദർശനമായും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇടവെട്ടിയിലെ വിഗ്രഹം മറഞ്ഞു പോയെന്നും പിന്നീട് ഈ പുണ്യഭൂമിയിൽ തപസ്സു ചെയ്തുപോന്ന ഒരു യോഗീശ്വരൻ ഗ്രാമമാകെ കൊടും വരൾച്ചയിലമർന്ന സമയത്തി ഒരു യാഗം നടത്തി മഴ പെയ്യിച്ചുവെന്നും പേമാരി മൂലം യാഗഭൂമി ഒരു ജലാശയമായെന്നും തുടർന്ന് വെള്ളമിറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ രണ്ടു വെട്ടിമരങ്ങൾക്കിടയിലിരുന്ന ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ വിഗ്രഹം ദൃശ്യമായെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. രണ്ടു വെട്ടി മരങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിച്ചതായതിനാലാണ് ഇടവെട്ടി എന്ന പേർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു ലഭിച്ചതത്രെ.
