In olden days during the rule of kings ,the place was dwelled with Sarpalayams. Some of the Sarpalayams were destroyed,Due to the impure and unritualistic approach of people associated with Sarpalayams .The idols of Nagaraja and Chitrakoodam were immersed in sand. Theillam associated with the temple was destroyed and the inmates left the place.In due course the place was occupied by Erandathara Velu .His family worshipped Subrahmanya Swami in the kavu. When pujas failed the neighbours bore the wrath of Sarpams fury. About 60 years before Brahmashri Narayanan Namboothiri of Pala Thevanomkodu Mana visited the Kavu and installed the idol of Nagayakshi to ward off Sarpakopam(wrath of Serpent God). On the Pathamudayam (10thday) day on the Malayalam month of Medom Kalamezhuthu for Nagayakshi and Kavadiyattom for Subrahmanya Swami are offered accompanied with Thalam And Vadyamelam. പുരാതന കാലഘട്ടം മുതല്‍ ഈ കാവ് രാജാധികാരത്തില്‍ നില നിന്നിരുന്നതും, പൌരാണി കമായിത്തന്നെ ഇവിടം സര്‍പ്പാലയങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ട് ചൈതന്യവത്തായിരുന്നതുമാണ്. ഇതോടു ബന്ധപ്പെടുന്ന പല സര്‍പ്പാ ലയങ്ങളും നശിച്ചുപോയിരുന്നു. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകള്ക്ക് മുമ്പ് ആരാധന യില്ലാതെ അന്നത്തെ അവകാശികളായിരുന്നവരുടെ വൃതശുദ്ധി ഇല്ലായ്മ നിമിത്തം ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്ന നാഗരാജാവിന്‍റെയുംചിത്രകൂടത്തിന്‍റെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള്‍ മണ്ണില്‍ മൂടി പ്പോവുകയും ഇവിടെ നിലനിന്നിരുന്നവരുടെ ഇല്ലം ക്ഷയിക്കുകയും ഇവിടം വിട്ടുപോവു കയുംചെയ്തു. കാലാന്തരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്ത് താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന എരണ്ടത്തറ വേലു എന്ന ആളുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാവുകയും, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ കുടുംബത്തിലുണ്ടയിരുന്ന സുബ്രമണ്യ സ്വാമിയുടെ ഫോട്ടോ കാവില്‍ വെച്ച് ആരാധിച്ചുപോരുകയും,പിന്നീട് പൂജകളും മറ്റും നടത്താതെ വരുകയും പരിസരവാസികളായ ആളുകള്‍ സര്‍പ്പ കോപത്തിന് പാത്രിഭുതവരാ വുകയും ചെയ്തു.ഏകദേശം 60 വര്‍ഷം മുന്‍പ് പാലതേവണംകോട് മനയിലെ ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ നാരായണന്‍ നമ്പൂതിരി ഈ കാവ് സന്ദര്‍ശിക്കുകയും സര്‍പ്പ കോപം മാറാന്‍ നാഗയക്ഷിയുടെ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പൊതുജനസേവാസഭ എന്നപേരു നല്‍കി എല്ലാ വര്‍ഷവും മേടമാസത്തിലെ പത്താമുദയ നാളില്‍ നാഗയക്ഷിയമ്മയുടെ കളമെഴുത്തുംപാട്ടും, സുബ്രമണ്യസ്വാമിക്ക് താലവാദ്യമേളത്തോടുകൂടി കാവടിയാട്ടവും നടത്തിവരുന്നു.
