Centuries back, Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu was a place ruled by the British people, and Karayar, an area included nearby. The King of Cochin was inviting a society of people known to be Vellalappillas. They reached over here and began to reside together with the earlier inhabitants. Their favourite Deity was Kaleeshwari, whom they fondfully addressed as “Pechi Amman”. The Vellappilla group wished for a place to adore their dear Devi. Accordingly to the Dravidian conventionalities and systems they consecrated the idol of Pechi Amman. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകള്‍ക്ക് മുമ്പ് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് അധീനതയിലായിരുന്ന തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലുള്ള തിരുനൽവേലിയിലെ കാരയാർ പ്രദേശത്ത് നിന്നും കൊച്ചി മഹാരാജാവിൻറെ ക്ഷണം സ്വീകരിച്ച് എറണാകുളത്ത് വന്നു ചേർന്ന വെള്ളാളപ്പിള്ള സമുദായത്തിലെ ചില കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ വന്നു പ്രവാസികളായി ഇവിടെ നേരത്തെ എത്തിയിരുന്ന മറ്റുള്ളവർക്കൊപ്പം താമസമാക്കുകയും അവരുടെ കുലദൈവമായ പേച്ചിയമ്മനെ ദ്രാവിഡ സംസ്ക്കാരപ്രകാരം പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി ആരാധിച്ചു പോരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
