ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ರಾಜಾಶಂಕರನೆಂಬ ಅರಸನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಕೋಟೆಕುಂಜ ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕೃಷ್ಣಶರ್ಮನೆಂಬ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣನೊಬ್ಬನು ಪೆರ್ಡೂರಿನ ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವು ಆರು ಅಥವಾ ಏಳನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಷ್ಟು ಹಳೆಯದೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬ್ರಿಟೀಷರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸರ್ವೇಯರ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಕರ್ನಲ್ ಕೋಲಿನ ಮೆಕೆನ್ಶೀ ಯವರು (1754-1821) ಸುಮಾರು 200 ವರ್ಷಗಳಷ್ಟು ಹಿಂದೆ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಕನ್ನಡದ ಕೈಫಿಯತ್ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಕೈಫಿಯತ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮೂದಿಸಿರುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯಂತೆ ಪೆರ್ಡೂರು ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತಪದ್ಮನಾಭನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹೆಬ್ಬಾರ್ ಎಂಬುವರು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ 1520ನೇ ಇಸವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನವು ದೊರೆತಿದ್ದು ಈ ಶಾಸನದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಜನಾರ್ದನದೇವ ಮತ್ತು ಅನಂತದೇವ ಎಂದು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಟ್ಟಕಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಂತಪದ್ಮನಾವ್ಹನೆಂದೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂಶಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸ್ಪದವಿಲ್ಲದಂತೆ ನಮೂದಿಸಿದೆ. According to sources, this temple was built by Krishna Sharma, a Brahmin, who was living in Kotikunja, which was then under the rule of Raja Shankara. The history of the temple dates back to six to seventh century A.D., The Kaipheat of Dakshina Kannada district found by Col. Colin Mackenzie (1754-1821), who was the first Surveyor General of India around 200 years ago, mentions that Sri Krishna Hebbar of Perdur Magane got the idol of Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy consecrated in the temple. A stone inscription of 1458 lying in the temple initially mentions the name of the deity as Janardhanadeva and Ananthadeva in the concluding remarks. However, another inscription of 1520 clearly mentions the name of the deity as Sri Ananthapadmanabha.
