The temple was probably constructed by Subramanya Shetty in 1915. According to another source, the temple was constructed by Bopanna Shetty. According to a popular belief, once Goddess Banashankari came in the dream of Mr. Shetty and directed him to go to Badami and bring back an idol from that temple to establish an abode at the current location. At the same time, Goddess Banashankari appeared in the dream of Badami temple priest and guided him to hand over the idol to Mr. Shetty. Thus, Mr. Shetty arranged for the consecration of Goddess Banashankari idol at the temple here. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಬಹುಷಃ ಸುಬ್ರಮಣ್ಯ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯoಬುವರಿಂದ 1915 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮೂಲದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಬೋಪಣ್ಣ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಎಂಬುವರು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದರೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಚಲಿತ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ , ಒಮ್ಮೆ ದೇವಿಯು ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯವರ ಕನಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ಬಾದಾಮಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ತಂದು ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದು ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ದೇವಿಯು ಬಾದಾಮಿಯ ಅರ್ಚಕರ ಕನಸಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯವರಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಹೀಗೆ, ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯವರು ಬಾದಾಮಿಯಿಂದ ತಂದ ಆ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯ ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Once, three Pativratas visited the temple and asked the priest to perform puja during Rahukala. Though initially the pujari refused to worship, women insisted that the pujari offered the worship to the presiding deity. After completion of puja, the priest came out to give Prasada to the devotees, but to his dismay, they had all disappeared. This incident made the people believe that the visitors were Goddesses in the guise of ordinary women and that anyone offering prayers during Rahukala attracts the blessings of the Goddess, which in turn will ensure everlasting happiness, peace and prosperity in life. In the Banashankari Temple here, special pujas are performed on Tuesday, Friday and Sundays, which are considered to be very auspicious. A large number of devotees throng the temple to offer prayers on these days. ಒಮ್ಮೆ, ಮೂರು ಪತಿವ್ರತೆಯರು ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಸಂದರ್ಶಿಸಿ, ರಾಹುಕಾಲದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ಅರ್ಚಕರನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ, ಅರ್ಚಕರು ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡಲು ನಿರಾಕರಿಸುತ್ತಾರಾದರು, ಈ ಮೂವರ ಒತ್ತಾಯದ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಅರ್ಚಕರು ಹೊರಬಂದು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ, ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಕರವಾಗಿ, ಆ ಮೂವರೂ ಪತಿವ್ರತೆಯರೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಮಾಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಘಟನೆಯಿಂದ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಆ ಮೂವರು ಪತಿವ್ರತೆಯರು ಮಾರುವೇಷದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ದೇವಿಯರೇ ಇದ್ದಿರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಮತ್ತು ರಾಹುಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುವವರು ದೇವಿಯ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿ ಕ್ರಮೇಣವಾಗಿ ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾದ ಸಂತೋಷ, ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭ್ಯುದಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಂಗಳವಾರ, ಶುಕ್ರವಾರ ಹಾಗು ಭಾನುವಾರಗಳಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಪೂಜೆಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ಪೂಜೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಮಂಗಳಕರ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಕ್ತರು ಈ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ಪೂಜಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
