As per the statement of ancestors, Lord Shiva’s son Subrahmanya asks Brahma to tell the importance of Omkara but was denied. For this, Brahma was kept in prison. Later on, Subrahmanya realized his mistake and cursed himself to take the shape of a serpent and decides to live in the forest. In the absence of Subramanya in north, Garuda was hunting snakes without any fear. To overcome this menace, Vasuki and other Serpent Gods requests Subramanya to approach Lord Vishnu to stop this menace caused by Garuda. Consequently, Lord Vishnu instructs Garuda and agrees to stay in Ghati as Lakshmi Narasima along with Subrahmanya. In this way, this holy place is having the combination of both Subrahmanya and Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy. ಪೂರ್ವಿಕರ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಶಿವನ ಪುತ್ರ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಬಳಿ ಓಂ ಕಾರದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನು ನಿರಾಕರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ಸೆರೆವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಂತರ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪಿನ ಅರಿವಾಗಿ ತನಗೆ ತಾನೇ ಶಾಪವಿತ್ತು ನಾಗರ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ತಾಳಿ ದಂಡಕಾರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಲು ತಿರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದ. ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನು ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಗರುಡನಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಪಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇಟೆಯಾಡಲು ಧೈರ್ಯವಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ವಾಸುಕಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಲವು ನಾಗರದೇವರುಗಳು ಗರುಡನ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸವನ್ನು ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟಲು ವಿಷ್ಣುದೇವರನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದಾಗಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನನ್ನು ಪಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದರು. ಶ್ರೀ ನಾರಾಯಣನು ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನ ಈ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡು ಗರುಡನಿಗೆ ಸೂಚನೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ತಾನು ಘಾಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನರಸಿಂಹನಾಗಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯನೊಂದಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆಸಲು ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ಈ ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನರಸಿಂಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಸಂಗಮವಾಗಿದೆ.

The history of this temple is more than 600 years old. This temple was first built by Ghorpade family from Sondur province with the help of Brahmins and Gollas. In return of this help, Brahmins will take part in the activities as temple priest and Gollas will take other responsibilities during fair and festival season. The peak of the sanctum is in Dravidian style and dates back to Vijayanagara era. The 5 tier Rajagopuram has been recently constructed with the art work of Shiva purana. The temple tank here is called by the name Kumarathirtha and it is believed that the God takes bath in this tank. Therefore, it is also believed that, taking bath in this tank will help in easement of sins committed and curing of physical and mental ailments and also blood related diseases. The mud available in the temple tank is also distributed among devotes with the belief that, it will cure all skin related diseases. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸುಮಾರು 600 ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವುಳ್ಳದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ. ಸೊಂಡೂರಿನ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಕುಂಟುಂಬದವರು, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರು ಮತ್ತು ಗೊಲ್ಲರ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಸಹಾಯಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ವಂಶಸ್ಥರು ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಆರ್ಚಕರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮತ್ತು ಗೊಲ್ಲರ ವಂಶಸ್ಥರು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಉತ್ಸವಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂತಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯ ಶಿಖರವು ದ್ರಾವಿಡ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಅದು ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮತ್ತು 5 ಅಂತಸ್ತಿನ ರಾಜಗೋಪುರವು ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗಷ್ಟೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಶಿವಪುರಾಣದ ಚಿತ್ರಕಲೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪುಷ್ಕರಿಣಿಯು ಕುಮಾರತೀರ್ಥ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟು ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರು ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆಂದು ನಂಬಿಕೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಪುಣ್ಯತೀರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನಮಾಡುವವರಿಗೆ ತಾವು ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಪಾಪ ಕರ್ಮಗಳು, ಶಾರೀರಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ರೋಗಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಚರ್ಮ ಹಾಗೂ ರಕ್ತ ಸಂಬಂಧ ರೋಗಗಳು ವಾಸಿಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಪಾಪಕರ್ಮಗಳು ನಿವಾರಣೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹುತ್ತದ ಮಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಹಂಚುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಾರಣ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಚರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಗಳು ವಾಸಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತೀತಿ.
