No worship or ritual commences without lighting a traditional lamp. Taila Nandadeepa is a lamp that burns with any edible oil like Til or groundnut oil. Nandadeepa is always lit in temples and puja room of households. Taila Nandadeepa Seva is a seva in which the devotee can pay a prescribed charge for the oil with which the lamp is lit and kept burning. ತೈಲ ಅಥವಾ ಘೃತ ದೀಪವು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕರ್ಮಾಂಗಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದು. ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿಸದೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ, ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೂಜಾಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ದೀಪವಂದು ಸದಾ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ವಿದಿಸುತ್ತವ. ನಂದಾದೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಎಳ್ಳೆಣ್ಣೆ ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ಖಾದ್ಯ ತೈಲವನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಬಹುದು. ನೇರವಾಗಿ ತೈಲವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಅಥವಾ ದೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸುವ ತೈಲದ ವೆಚ್ಚವನ್ನು ಸೇವಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ತೈಲ ನಂದಾದೀಪ ಸೇವೆಯೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
