The history has many records to substantiate. At the time of reign by Veeramarthanda Varma, the efficient King of Travancore Dynasty, Zamorin of Kozhikode had kept the supremacy of certain areas in the Cochin Regency. These regions were released from the custody of Zamorin. As an equal return, the King of Cochin was gifting 2 prominent places, one Aalangadu and the other Paravur. This is a pilgrim centre so ancient and elegant. In continuance, the temple in those times, stood which in Iykkarakkadu, turned difficult to get ruled by the real possessors, 4 Namboodiri Manas of Cochin were vested with the powers of ruling the temple including Ooranma. The resultant of all these was, the coming of Narasimha Moorthi temple here. From Iykkara, the idol of the Lord was made to reach at Aalangadu through water using wooden boat. To make the idol free from both rain and Sunlight, Srimanikkuda (gewel-made) was used. Those who were carrying the umbrella, later known to be ‘Srimanikkodan’, (Changinikkodan). The treasury was also taken to reach the temple along with the idol safely. These peoples were later addressed to be Thonikkar. Even now in the festive periods, these 2 families are in charge of 2 authoritative things, one, on special days the temple deity coming outside the premises, he is to be safely guarded under the umbrella and the treasury box on this day is to be carried out by the other family. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ മഹാരാജാവായിരുന്ന വീരമർത്താണ്ഡവർമ്മയുടെ കാലത്ത് കൊച്ചിരാജ്യത്ത് സാമൂതിരി കയ്യടക്കി വെച്ചിരുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചു നൽകിയതിന് പ്രത്യുപകാരമായി കൊച്ചി രാജാവ് തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലേക്ക് വിട്ടു കൊടുത്തതാണ് ആലങ്ങാടും പറവൂരുമെന്നു ചരിത്ര രേഖകളിൽ കാണാം. ആലങ്ങാട്ടു ദേശത്തെ അതിപുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്. തുടർന്ന്, ഐക്കരക്കാട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് നില നിന്നിരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം അന്നത്തെ ഉടമസ്ഥർക്ക് ഭരിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാതിരുന്നതിനാൽ കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തിൽ തന്നെയുള്ള നാല് നമ്പൂതിരി കുടുംബങ്ങളിൽ (ഊരാണ്മ) നിക്ഷേപാധികാരം എല്പ്പിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടതാണ് ഈ വിഖ്യാതമായ നരസിംഹ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഐക്കര നിന്നും വിഗ്രഹം ആലങ്ങാട്ടെത്തിച്ചത് തോണിയിലൂടെ ജലമാർഗം വഴിയായിരുന്നു. വിഗ്രഹത്തിനു വെയിലോ മഴയോ ഏൽക്കാതെ ശ്രീമണിക്കുട ( രത്നക്കുട) ചൂടിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് വന്നവരെ ശ്രീമണിക്കോടനെന്നും ( ഇന്ന് - ചങ്ങിണിക്കോടൻ ) ക്ഷേത്രം വക ഭണ്ഡാരം തോണിയിൽ സുരക്ഷിതമായി എത്തിച്ചവരെ തോണിക്കർ എന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്നും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും മറ്റും ക്ഷേത്ര മതിൽക്കെട്ട് വിട്ടിറങ്ങുന്ന ദേവന് കുടപിടിക്കുന്നതും ഭണ്ഡാരം ചുമക്കുന്നതും ഇതേ കുടുംബക്കാർ തന്നെയാണ്.
