Lord Parasurama, consecrating many Durga temples in different bhavas of Goddess Durga, was coming to a decision to make a Durga Prathishta, the Goddess Durga containing all her Bhavas in one Idol as Sakthi Swaroopini. He himself carved an idol of the Deity in Anjana Sila. The very moment the Thrimoorthis viewed the Devi idol, they were prostrating unto the feet of Devi. To complete the fill of splendor, Lord Parasurama was keeping the idol sunk in water and he invoked Devi Parasakthi. After that, the Lord was going up to the stage of a deep austerity in Devagiri Hills. He spent like this in the hills propitiating Goddess Durga for 1000 years. Years passed. The King Cheraman Perumal who was ruling Kerala at that time deeply thought on building up one Subrahmanya temple at Kumaranalloor and one Devi Temple at Udayanapuram. This time, incidentally at Madura, the ornament ring on the nose of Goddess Meenakshi was seen lost. Naturally the King was doubtful on the main Priest. He, the innocent priest, was humbly prayed on the Goddess's feet. Devi’s blessing appeared on him as a suggestion to quit the place with every fastness. And she herself was to lead the Pujari and showed him the way. His travel continued up to the temple which the King had built up newly for enshrining Lord Subrahmanya in Kumaranalloor. Thus the temple, which was intended to enshrine Lord Muruga, Devi’s idol was consecrated and the worship has begun. ദുര്‍ഗ്ഗയുടെ വിവിധ ഭാവങ്ങളിലുള്ള അനേകം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങള്‍ കേരളത്തിന്‍റെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി സ്ഥാപിച്ച പരശുരാമന് അവസാനം എല്ലാ ഭാവങ്ങളും ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ശക്തിസ്വരൂപിണിയായ ദുര്‍ഗാ ദേവിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കണമെന്ന് നിശ്ചയിച്ച്, അതിനായി ഒരു രൂപത്തെ സങ്കല്‍പ്പിച്ച് അഞ്ജന ശിലയില്‍ കൊത്തിയെടുത്തു. വിഗ്രഹദർശനമാത്രയിൽത്തന്നെ ബ്രഹ്മാവിഷ്ണു മഹേശ്വരന്മാർ വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചുവെന്നും, ചൈതന്യപൂർത്തിക്കായി വിഗ്രഹം ജലത്തിലാഴ്ത്തി പരാശക്തിയെ ആവാഹിച്ചുവെന്നുമാണ് ഐതീഹ്യം. പിന്നീട് പരശുരാമന്‍ വേദഗിരി മലയില്‍ ആയിരത്തോളം വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹത്തെ പൂജിച്ച് തപസ് ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു. കാലങ്ങള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞു. കുമാരനല്ലൂരിൽ ഒരു സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യക്ഷേത്രവും , ഉദയനാപുരത്ത് ഒരു ദേവീക്ഷേത്രവും പണിതീർക്കണമെന്നു കേരളം ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന ചേരമാൻപെരുമാൾ മഹാരാജാവ് ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന സമയത്താണ് മധുരമീനാക്ഷിയുടെ രത്നഖചിതമായ മൂക്കുത്തി പെട്ടെന്ന്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടത്. രാജാവ് സ്വാഭാവികമായും ശാന്തിക്കാരനെ സംശയിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. നിരപരാധിയായ ശാന്തിക്കാരൻ ദേവിയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചതിന്റെ ഫലമായി തൽക്ഷണം അവിടം വിട്ടു പോകാൻ ദേവി അരുളുകയും, പ്രകാശരൂപേണ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വഴി കാട്ടുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ യാത്ര ചേരരാജാവ് സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ പ്രതിഷ്ഠക്കായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച കോവിലിൽ ചെന്നാണ് നിന്നത്. പിന്നീട് സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ പ്രതിഷ്ടക്കായുള്ള കര്‍മ്മങ്ങള്‍ രാജാവ് തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ "കുമാരനല്ല ഊരിൽ" എന്ന അശരീരി കേൾക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ. അങ്ങനെ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനെ പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കുവാന്‍ നിശ്ചയിച്ച ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച് ആരാധന തുടങ്ങി. നാളുകള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ പരശുരാമനാൽ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെട്ട തന്‍റെ വിഗ്രഹം വേദഗിരിക്കുന്നുകളിൽ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അതെടുത്തു പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കണമെന്നുമുള്ള ദേവിയുടെ സ്വപ്നദര്‍ശനം രാജാവിനുണ്ടായി. ദേവിയുടെ ഇശ്ച പോലെ, വേദഗിരിക്കുന്നില്‍ നിന്നും കണ്ടെടുത്ത അഞ്ജന ശിലാ വിഗ്രഹം ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ കൊണ്ട് വന്ന് പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കുവാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ സമയത്ത്, ജടാവൽക്കലധാരിയായ ഒരാൾ എവിടെ നിന്നോ പ്രവേശിക്കുകയും വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു അന്തർദ്ധാനം ചെയ്തുവെന്നുമാണ് ഐതീഹ്യം.
