Kumaranalloor Devi Temple situated at a distance of 4 KMs away from Kottayam Town, in Central part of Kerala. The temple itself is a celebrity among the 108 renowned Durga temples. Devi is believed to be Madurai Meenakshi’s incarnation and it is old for 2400 years. Goddess Karthyayani in Kumari form is the superior Deity here. The nature of the Kovil is in the same style of Sree Chakra, which Bhagawathi is carrying in her palm in Srichakra Prakruthi. Such temples, following Devi possessing Srichakra Prakruthi is far less in Kerala according to the Vasthushasthra. In marvelous Anjana Sila, the idol is crafted. Inside the Nalambalam, Female Elephants and the Kshathriya race as a whole are banned. Chembarathy and Red Silk are also not permitted in the ceremonials, worshipping Devi. Lord Siva, Manibhooshanan and Alunkal Bhagawathi are the Sub deities consecrated here. Jagadguru Adi Sankara and Kurooramma, the esteemed devotee of Lord Guruvayoorappan used to visit this divine centre and Sankaracharya included this temple as one of the 5 celestial temples to propitiate Parasakthi (Pancha Peeta Samarpanam). Thus this temple has abundant history of devotion, dedication and everything. After the temple entry proclamation on 27 Thulam 1112, by His Highness Sri Chithira Thirunal Maharaja of Travancore, Kumaranalloor temple was opened before the Harijans and allowed them to worship. Followed by this incident, Mahatma Gandhi came to Travancore in 1937, and as per the suggestions of Maharaja, Gandhi Ji visited the temple and had a Darshan. He looked at the idol of Devi, without winking his eyes, for about 15 minutes. His eyes were filled with tears. He bowed at the feet of Devi on the steps. The most glorious day felicitated is Thrikarthika in the month of Vrishchika, the birth date of Devi. Besides, the Navarathri fest, together with Murajapam, Meenappooram on the Pooram Star date in the month of Meenam, Uthrattathi Vallamkali (Uthrattathi Uthsavam), Dwaja Prathishtadinam are all coming as annual festivals.

കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറെ പുകൾപെറ്റ നൂറ്റിയെട്ട് ദുർഗാലയങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് കോട്ടയം പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 4 കിലോ മീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരത്തായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന കുമാരനല്ലൂര്‍ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം. മധുരമീനാക്ഷിയുടെ അവതാരമായ ദേവിയാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഏകദേശം രണ്ടായിരത്തി നാനൂറോളം വര്ഷത്തെ പഴക്കമുണ്ടെന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. കുമാരീരൂപത്തിലുള്ള കാർത്ത്യായനീ (പാർവതി) ദേവിയാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ദേവിയുടെ തൃക്കയ്യിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീചക്രപ്രകൃതിയിലാണ് കോവിലിന്റെ ആകൃതി. ശ്രീചക്രാകൃതി പിന്തുടരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്ര വാസ്തുമാതൃകകൾ കേരളത്തിൽ വളരെ അപൂർവമാണ്. ഏറെ വിശിഷ്ടമായ അഞ്ജന ശിലയിലാണ് ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹം കൊത്തിയെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. നാലമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ക്ഷത്രിയവംശത്തിനും, കൊമ്പനാനയ്ക്കും പ്രവേശനമില്ല. ഇതുകൂടാതെ ആരാധനയ്ക്കായി ചെമ്പരത്തിയും ചുവന്ന പട്ടും ഉപയോഗിക്കുകയുമില്ല. ശിവൻ, മണിഭൂഷണൻ, ആലുങ്കൽ ഭഗവതി അഥവാ കാളി എന്നിവരാണ് ഉപദേവതാ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ. ചെമ്പകശ്ശേരി നമ്പൂതിരിക്ക് മുമ്പിവിടെ ഊരാണ്മസ്ഥാനമുണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും പിന്നീടാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അമ്പലപ്പുഴയ്ക്കു പോയതെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇരുപത്തിനാല് തിരികളോടെ ക്ഷേത്രനടയിൽ ഇന്നും ജ്വലിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഭദ്രദീപം, ദാരിദ്രശമനമുണ്ടായപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം വഴിപാടായി സമർപ്പിച്ചതാണ്. ജഗത്ഗുരു ആദിശങ്കരാചാര്യരും കുറൂരമ്മയും ഇവിടെ വന്ന് ദേവീദര്‍ശനം നടത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ജഗദ്ഗുരു ആദി ശങ്കരാചാര്യര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം സന്ദർശിക്കുകയും ഭാരതത്തിൽ പരാശക്ത്യാരാധനയ്ക്കായുള്ള അഞ്ചുക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി (പഞ്ച പീഠ സമര്‍പ്പണം) കുമാരനല്ലൂരിനെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗുരുവായൂരപ്പന്റെ ഭക്തയും പരമപൂജ്യയുമായ കുറൂരമ്മയും ഒരിക്കല്‍ ഇവിടം ദര്‍ശനം നടത്തുകയും ദേവിയുടെ സൗന്ദര്യത്തെ സ്തുതിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് കേശാദിപാദവർണ്ണനയും പാദാദികേശവർണ്ണനയും നടത്തിയതായി ക്ഷേത്ര ചരിത്രം പറയുന്നു. മഹാരാജാവ് ശ്രീ ചിത്തിര തിരുന്നാളിന്‍റെ ക്ഷേത്ര പ്രവേശന വിളംബര ശേഷം കുമാരനല്ലൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം എല്ലാ ഹിന്ദു ജാതി വിഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ക്ഷേത്രപ്രവേശനത്തിന് അനുമതി നല്‍കിയിരുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്ര പ്രവേശന വിളംബര വാര്‍ത്ത അറിഞ്ഞ മഹാത്മാ ഗാന്ധി തിരുവിതാംകൂര്‍ സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ച സമയത്ത് ചിത്തിര തിരുന്നാള്‍ മഹാരാജാവിന്‍റെ ആഗ്രഹപ്രകാരം കുമാരനല്ലൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും ദര്‍ശനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. ദര്‍ശനത്തിനെത്തിയ ഗാന്ധിജി, ദേവീ വിഗ്രഹത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ ഇമയനക്കാതെ പതിനഞ്ച് മിനിറ്റോളം നോക്കി നിന്നുവെന്നും, അതിന് ശേഷം നിറഞ്ഞ ഹൃദയത്തോടും നിറകകണ്ണുകളോടും ദേവിയെ സാഷ്ടാംഗ നമസ്കാരം ചെയ്തു എന്നുമാണ് ചരിത്രം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. കുമാരനല്ലൂർ ദേവിയുടെ പിറന്നാളായ വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ തൃക്കാർത്തികയാണ് ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ദിവസമായി ഇവിടെ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. അത് കൂടാതെ, മുറജപത്തോടു കൂടിയ നവരാത്രിയുത്സവം, മീന മാസത്തിലെ പൂരം നാളിലെ മീനപ്പൂരം, ഉത്രട്ടാതി വള്ളംകളി (ഉത്രട്ടാതിയുത്സവം) ധ്വജപ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനം എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാന വാര്‍ഷികാഘോഷങ്ങള്‍.
