Kurichithanam Poothrukkovil Temple is a very ancient pilgrim centre of Kerala, situates in Kurichithanam village of Kottayam district. Beyond any imagination or assessment, the temple’s antiquity is found out by excellent scholars. The conventional idolization all, of this Holy Centre, was by the spiritual luminary Vilwamamgalam Swamiyar. The 7 ooranmas are Kakkarupally, Pazhayidom, Madom, Thalayattumpaly, Pudumana, Kanjirakkadu, Padinjaredom, and Kizhakkedam. കേരളത്തിലെ അതിപുരാതനമായ തീർഥാടന കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണു കുറിച്ചിത്താനം പൂത്തൃക്കോവിൽ ക്ഷേത്രം. നിർണ്ണയിക്കുവാനാവാത്തത്ര വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപു സ്ഥാപിതമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാകർമ്മം നിർവ്വഹിച്ചത്, പൂർവ്വ കേരളത്തിലെ ആദ്ധ്യാത്മികാചാര്യനായിരുന്ന വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാരായിരുന്നു എന്നാണു വിശ്വാസം. പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഗുരുവായൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷദിവസമായ ഏകാദശി തന്നെയാണു് ഇവിടുത്തേയും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വിശേഷദിവസം എന്നതും വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാർ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാകർമ്മം നടത്തിയെന്നതും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ "ദക്ഷിണ ഗുരുവായൂർ" എന്ന മറ്റൊരു ദിവ്യ നാമത്തിനു കൂടി കാരണമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ടു്. കുചേലാനുഗ്രഹം നൽകുന്ന രുഗ്മിണീസമേതനായ കൃഷ്ണനും ഈ പേരിനെ അന്വർഥമാക്കുന്നതായി കാണാം. വടക്കൻ കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നും പണ്ടെന്നോ ഇവിടേക്കു കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്ത എട്ടു നമ്പൂതിരി കുടുംബങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന്, സന്താനപരമ്പരകളില്ലാതായതിനാൽ അന്യം നിന്നു പോകുകയും, ശേഷിക്കുന്ന ഏഴു കുടുംബങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്ര പരിപാലനം നടത്തിവരികയും ചെയ്തു എന്നാണു് ഐതിഹ്യം പരിശോധിച്ചാൽ കാണാൻ കഴിയുക. ആ ഏഴു കുടുംബക്കാരും സംയുക്തമായിത്തന്നെ ഇപ്പോഴും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെ ഭരണച്ചുമതല നിർവ്വിഘ്‌നം നിർവ്വഹിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. കാക്കാറുപള്ളി, പഴയിടം, മ0൦, തലയാറ്റുമ്പള്ളി, പുതുമന, കാഞ്ഞിരക്കാടു പടിഞ്ഞാറേടം, കാഞ്ഞിരക്കാടു കിഴക്കേടം എന്നീ ഏഴു നമ്പൂതിരി കുടുംബങ്ങളാണു് പ്രസ്തുത ഊരാണ്മക്കാർ.
