Sri Bhoo Varahaswamy temple at Kallhalli is believed to be more than 2500 years old. It is believed that sage Gautama had performed penance at Kallahalli. According to sources, the ancient Bhoo Varahaswamy Temple was built by Hoysala king Veera Ballala III. However, it had remained undiscovered and unprotected until a few years ago. King Veera Ballala, while hunting, is said to have lost his way in this forest. When he was resting under a tree, the king saw a hunting dog chasing a rabbit for quite a distance. However, when the two animals reached a particular spot, the rabbit suddenly turned back and started chasing the dog. The king felt there was some mystic power in the spot, where the rabbit became wild. On excavation, he found the deity of Pralaya Varahaswamy hidden under the ground. The king then built a temple and offered prayers every day. ಸುಮಾರು 2500 ವರ್ಷಗಳಷ್ಟು ಹಳೆಯದಾದ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಲ್ಲಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌತಮ ಋಷಿಗಳು ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೆಂಬ ಪ್ರತೀತಿಯಿದೆ. ಮೂಲಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಈ ದೇಗುಲವನ್ನು ಹೊಯ್ಸಳ ದೊರೆ ಮೂರನೆ ವೀರ ಬಲ್ಲಾಳನು ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಈ ದೇಗುಲವು ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗದೆ ಅರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಕುತೂಹಲಕಾರಿಯಾದ ಒಂದು ಕಥೆಯಿದೆ. ವೀರ ಬಲ್ಲಾಳ ರಾಜನು ಬೇಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿ ಒಂದು ಮರದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ತಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಕಣ್ಣೆದರಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಒಂದು ಬೇಟೆ ನಾಯಿಯು ಮೊಲವನ್ನು ಅಟ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವುಗಳು ಒಂದು ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಅದುವರೆಗೂ ಹೆದರಿ ಓಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮೊಲವು ಹಿಂದೆ ತಿರುಗಿ ನಾಯಿಯನ್ನೇ ಅಟ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಲಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಚಕಿತನಾದ ರಾಜನು ಆ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನೋ ವಿಶೇಷತೆ ಇದೆಯೆಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು, ಆ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಅಗೆದು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಳಯ ವರಾಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ(ಭೂವರಾಹಸ್ವಾಮಿ) ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

The temple is dedicated to the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Varahaswamy or the wild Boar form. The deity is supposed to have mysterious powers. The idol is 18 feet tall, is a monolith made of grey stone. The god is in a sitting pose with Goddess Bhoodevi seated on his left lap. ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಭೂ ವರಾಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪೂಜೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ತೊಂದರೆಗಳು ಶೀಘ್ರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗೃಹ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಯೆಂದು ಹಲವರ ಅನುಭವಸಿದ್ದ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯವಾಗಿದೆ.
