Sri Sri Sugnanendra Thirtha Swamiji, Guruji of Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji got this land from govt. in 1991. It was the dream of present pontiff of Puthige Mutt Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji to give a unique, beautiful and glorious temple for the devotees of Sri Krishna. This came true in the year 2004. Sree Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji consecrated Lord Sri Krishna. The temple is housed with Lord Krishna holding Govardhana on his little finger. The temple was constructed as a replica of Govardhana Hill, built around an existing hill. In place of the traditional sanctum sanctorum, residing in the cave's interior is Sri Krishna holding Govardhana (Hill). As we enter and proceed, we find the small cave temple beautifully ornamented with carvings depicting scenes from the Mahabharata. Most beautiful is the statue of Sri Krishna lifting Govardhana, for which the temple is named. Dim lights and lifelike colors and textures very successfully replicate a natural ancient cave temple. It is entirely man-made cave, crafted to appear natural and ancient. Sri Krishna Janmasthami is celebrated here with great pomp, along with various other religious observances. It is believed an astrologer determined that in ancient times, the Govardhana Kshetra cave once housed a temple of Durga devi, consequently, the Puthige Mutt has arranged for Durga Namaskara pooja to be conducted here every year (Annual Event). ಉಡುಪಿ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠದ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಗುಣೇಂದ್ರತೀರ್ಥ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರ, ಆಶ್ರಮ ಗುರುಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಜ್ಞಾನೇಂದ್ರತೀರ್ಥರು ಈ ನಿವೇಶನವನ್ನು ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ 1991ರಲ್ಲಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಪೀಠಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಗುಣೇಂದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥರು ಭಕ್ತ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಆಧುನಿಕ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶ ಪ್ರಾಕ್ತನ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಎನ್ನುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಗೋವರ್ಧನಧಾರಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ್ನಾಗಿ 2004ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ದೇಗುಲವನ್ನು ದ್ವಾಪರ ಯುಗದ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನು ಮೂಡಿಸುವಂತೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.ಈ ಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯೆನ್ನುವುದು ಬರಿ ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕವೆ ವಿನಃ ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ.ಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಸನಿಹದಿಂದ ನೋಡುವುದಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಅವಕಾಶ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಒಳ ಭಾಗವು ೪ಚಕ್ರಗಳಂತಿರುವ ವೊಂದು ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಇದು ಕೃತ, ತ್ರೇತಾ, ದ್ವಾಪರ,ಕಲಿಯುಗವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸುವಂತೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣ ವಿಗ್ರಹವಿದೆ. ಕಾಲ ಉರುಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದರು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಆನಿಕೆಯ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಿರವಾಗಿ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಸಾರುವಂತೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದಂಗಳವರು ಈ ದೇಗುಲವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಭಕ್ತ ಜನತೆಗಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕಾಂಕ್ರೀಟ್ ಕಾಡಿನೊಳಗೊಂದು ದ್ವಾಪರ ದರ್ಶನವನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ದುರ್ಗಾ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಬಹು ವಿಜೃಂಭಣೆ ಇಂದ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
