Sri Mahaganapati Temple at Malleshwaram on 9th Cross has a history of more than 95 years. The temple was built in 1920 by Sri Giriyappa Gowda, a resident of Srirampuram in Bengaluru. The presiding deity Sri Mahaganapati was consecrated on the auspicious day of Sri Varamahalakshmi. The 1.5 ft. high idol of Sri Mahaganapati has four hands. Sri Subrahmanya Shastry was appointed as the head priest at the time of installation of the main deity. In 1964, a Vimanagopura was erected and inaugurated by Sri Sri Sri Abhimana Vidyapeetha Tirtharu of Sringeri Mutt. The idol of Sri Subrahmanya Swamy was installed a few days after the idol of Sri Ganapati was installed. This Ganapati is fond of coconuts; sugarcane garland and Jaggery Deeparati. It is believed that the Lord fulfills the desires of devotees offering these sevas. Some devotes have presented bronze, silver and gold armors to the Lord. Some devotees have contributed funds for marble and granite floorings inside the temple. ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕದಾದರೂ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದು ಎನ್ನುವ ಈ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರಂ ಶ್ರೀಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ನಿದರ್ಶನವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಶ್ರೀರಾಂಪುರದ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾದ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಿರಿಯಪ್ಪಗೌಡರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲಮಂಗಲದ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 1 1/2 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರವುಳ್ಳ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕೈಗಳ, ಕುಳಿತಿರುವ ಭಂಗಿಯ ಶಿಲಾಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾ ಗಣಪತಿಯ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ದೊರಕಿದ್ದು, ಆ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು 1930 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ವರಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ದಿನದಂದು ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರಂನ ಈಗಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂದಿನ ದಿನ ಈ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಗೆ ಗುಡ್ಡದ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣಪತಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಹೆಸರಿತ್ತು. ಆ ನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪೂಜಾ, ವಿನಿಯೋಗಾದಿಗಳಿಂದ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದಿುಂದಾಗಿ ಭಕ್ತರಿಂದ ಈ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಗೆ ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರ ಶ್ರೀಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹೆಸರುವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ಪವಾಡವೂ ಸಹ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹಿರಿಮೆುಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ್ದಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
