Sri Subramanya Swamy temple is blessed by the deep penance of the great sage Sri Mandavya. Lots of devotees visit the sacred anthills (Huttha) present in the Sri Subramanya Swamy temple premises to offer their prayers and vows. This temple is located on the way to Madras (Chennai) region. According to the urban legend, once upon a time there was king who along with his royal family was passing by this temple. They all stopped by to offer prayers to the sacred anthill. As a result, one of the soldiers who had a defective eye got his vision back instantaneously in a miraculous way. Realizing the divine power of the sacred anthill, the king decided to build a temple just beside the sacred anthill. According to historical facts, the ancient temple of Sri Subramanya Swamy is believed to be at least 300 years old. The beautiful idol is approximately 3 feet tall adorned by dual shoulder holding the “Vajrajudha” and “Kati Hastha”. This idol resembles the Sri Subramanya Swamy idol present in the Thiruthani kshetra of Tamilnadu. There is an elephant chariot situation in front of the idol as opposed to the usual peacock chariot. This elephant chariot has been installed according to mythological background in line with the way Thirthani temple has installed an elephant chariot. Based on these facts, one might believe that the same person must have been responsible for building these two sacred temples. ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವು, ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಂಡವ್ಯ ಋಷಿಗಳ ದಿವ್ಯ ತಪಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ಸಿದ್ದಿಸಿದ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ದಂತ ಕಥೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುತ್ತಗಳು ಇದ್ದು, ಆ ಹುತ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಭಕ್ತರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪೂಜೆ ಹರಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಮದ್ರಾಸ್ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಮದ್ರಾಸ್ಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅಂದಿನ ರಾಜ ಪರಿವಾರವು ಈ ಹುತ್ತದ ಸಮೀಪ ಬಂದು ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಪರಿವಾರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸೇನಾನಿಗೆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ದೋಷವಿದ್ದು, ಆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ದೋಷವು ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಮಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿವಾರಣೆಯಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಆ ಹುತ್ತದ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ದೇವಾಲಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಸುಮಾರು 300 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ದೇವಾಲಯ. ಈ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯು 3 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರವಿರುವ ದ್ವಿಭುಜವುಳ್ಳ ವಜ್ರಾಯುಧ, ಕಟಿ ಹಸ್ತದ ಸುಂದರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ತಮಿಳುನಾಡಿನ ತಿರುತ್ತಣಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಂತೆಯೇ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಎದುರು ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಯೂರ ವಾಹನದ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಗಜ ವಾಹನವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ವಾಹನವನ್ನು ಪುರಾಣದ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಗಜವಾಹನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತೀತಿ ಇದ್ದು, ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿರುತ್ತಣಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ಗಜವಾಹನವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬರೇ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಟಾಪಿಸಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ.

The temple is built in a Dravidian style comprising of all the key elements like “Garbagruha” (Sanctum sanctorum), “Shukanaasi”, “Navaranga”, “Pradakshina patha” (circular corridor), “Sabha mantapa” (conference place) and outer “pradakshina patha”. The temple has 3 “vimana gopura” (aeroplane towers) and the “raja gopura” (main tower) in the front is built with 3 stories. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಗರ್ಭಗೃಹ, ಶುಕನಾಸಿ, ನವರಂಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪಥ, ಸಭಾ ಮಂಟಪ ಹಾಗೂ ಹೊರ ಆವರಣ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪಥ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ 2 ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪಥದ ದ್ರಾವಿಡ ಶೈಲಿಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ 3 ವಿಮಾನ ಗೋಪುರವಿದ್ದು, ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು 3 ಅಂತಸ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
