Kodungalloor Bhagawathi Temple, believed to be the ‘moolasthanam’ of all the Shaktheya worshippers in Kerala, is dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali. The deity in the temple, is Parashakti (the ultimate Shakti) herself. She represents the goddess in her fierce ('ugra') form, featuring eight hands with various attributes. കേരളത്തിലെ ശാക്തേയ ഉപാസകരുടെ മൂലസ്ഥാനമായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ദേവത ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ്. ദേവിയെ പരാശക്തിയായി സങ്കല്‍പ്പിച്ച് ഉഗ്രമൂര്‍ത്തി ഭാവത്തില്‍ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു ഇവിടെ. Thiruvanchikkulam Mahadeva Temple situated in Kodungallur. The temple is believed to have been built during the Chera period in the 8th century. Shiva is worshiped as Mahadeva and his consort Parvathi as Umadevi. Out of 274 Shaiva Thiruppathies in India, only one is in Kerala and it is Thiruvanchikulam. It is also famous for Palliyara Pooja for marriage and peaceful married life. The Uma-Maheswara Pooja is popularly known as “Dampathi Pooja” (pooja for couples). Dampathi Pooja is performed daily, but Pooja on Paurnami is considered more effective. എട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ ചേര രാജവംശകാലത്ത് സ്ഥാപിച്ചതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകള്‍ മഹാദേവനും ഉമാദേവിയുമാണ്. ശൈവരുടെ 274 തിരുപ്പതികളിൽ കേരളത്തിലെ ഏക ശൈവതിരുപ്പതിയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ഉപദേവതകളുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ പെട്ട ഇവിടെ 33 ഉപദേവതകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ഇവിടുത്തെ ശക്തിപഞ്ചാക്ഷരി വിഗ്രഹവും അപൂർവഭാവത്തിലുള്ളതാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ദമ്പതി പൂജയില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത് പള്ളിയറ തൊഴുന്നത് മംഗല്യസിദ്ധിക്കും സന്താനലബ്ധിക്കും ഫലവത്താണെന്ന പ്രബലമായ വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്‌.

It’s a part of Muziris Heritage Project, situates at a distance – 7 KMs. മുസിരിസ് പൈതൃക സംരക്ഷണ പദ്ധതിയില്‍ പെട്ട പാലിയം കോവിലകവും നാല് കെട്ട് മ്യൂസിയവും ഏകദേശം 7 കിലോ മീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരത്തായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു.
