Situated on the banks of Yagachi River in Hassan district, Belur was earlier called as Velapuri. Belur is also known as Varanasi of the south. The historically significant and monumental temple of Sri Chennakeshava here has attracted global attention for its exquisite sculpture and architectural glory. The idol of Sri Chennakeshava in this temple is 12 ft. high. In and around Belur there are five very rare shrines of Sri Anjaneya and Panchalingas. Belur was the first capital of Hoysala kings. ಬೇಲೂರು ಹಾಸನ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯಗಚಿ ನದಿಯ ದಡದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಪೂರ್ವ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ವೇಲಾಪುರೀ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇದನ್ನು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ವಾರಾಣಸಿ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ತನ್ನ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದಿ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವನ ವಿಗ್ರಹವು 12 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರವಿದೆ. ಬೇಲೂರಿನ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪಂಚಮುಖಿ ಆಂಜನೇಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಂಚಲಿಂಗಗಳ ದೇಗುಲಗಳಿವೆ. ಬೇಲೂರು ಹೊಯ್ಸಳ ಅರಸರ ಪ್ರಥಮ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

Halebid was earlier known as Dwarasamudra. Halebid is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Karnataka. It has earned prominence due to the historically significant temple of Sri Hoysaleshwara. This temple has earned global popularity due to intricate and exquisite sculpture. There are Basdis of Parshwanatha, Shantinatha and Adinatha in Halebid. Halebid was the second capital of Hoysala rulers. ದ್ವಾರಸಮುದ್ರ ಎಂದೇ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಹಳೇಬೀಡು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಉತ್ಕೃಷ್ಟ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲಾ ನೈಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಹೊಯ್ಸಳೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪುರಾತನವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದ್ಭುತ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಜಗದ್ವಿಖ್ಯಾತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಳೇಬೀಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವನಾಥ ಬಸದಿ, ಶಾಂತಿನಾಥ ಬಸದಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಆದಿನಾಥ ಬಸದಿಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಹಳೆಬೀಡು ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ದ್ವೀತಿಯ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

A dam has been constructed across Hemavati River at Gorur. Hemavati flows here as a tributary of the Kaveri. The Hemavati dam was constructed in 1979. Due to the construction of this reservoir, people of Hassan district could get water for drinking and irrigation purposes. ಹೇಮಾವತಿ ನದಿಗೆ ಗೊರೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪನದಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾವೇರಿಯು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಹೇಮಾವತಿ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟನ್ನು 1979 ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಹಾಸನ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೃಷಿ ಬಳಕೆಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಯಿತು.

The Rosary Church at Shettihalli is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Karnataka. This church is about two kilometres away from Shettihalli. It was built by French Missionaries in 1860 A.D., As a result of the construction of a dam across Hemavati River in 1960, the church submerged in the backwaters in 1976. This also triggered an exodus of Christian families from around the Church. Since then, the Church has remained a monument and a popular place for tourists. During every rainy season, the Church submerges and during summer, it becomes visible in full bloom. With the calm back around and a façade of greenery in the vicinity, the Church presents an enthralling and enchanting view. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿತಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಹಳ್ಳಿಯಿಂದ ಎರಡು ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಅಂತರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದು 1860ರಲ್ಲಿ ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ಮಿಶನರಿಗಳಿಂದ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. 1960ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಮಾವತಿ ನದಿಗೆ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದುದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ 1976ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲಾಶಯದ ಹಿನ್ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಮುಳುಗಡೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಇದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಸಮೀಪ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಸಮುದಾಯದವರು ಬೇರೆ ಊರುಗಳಿಗೆ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋದರು. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಬಹು ಪಾಲು ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿರುತ್ತದೆಯಾದರೂ ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಹಿಸುವ ಹೇಮಾವತಿ ಜಲಾಶಯದ ಹಿನ್ನೀರು, ಹಚ್ಚಹಸಿರಿನಿಂದ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲ ಪರಿಸರದಿಂದ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಮನಸೂರೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.
