The Kadlekai Parishe is a three-day spectacle that happens around the Bull Temple or the Dodda Basava temple in Basavanagudi in south Bengaluru. Kadlekai in Kannada means groundnut and Parishe means #fair. Kadlekai Parishe is one of the most popular cultural feasts in Bengaluru, which begins on the last Monday of the Hindu month of Karteeka Masa, which comes in November, every year. There is a legend attached to the annual Kadlekai Parishe. In the distant past, Bengaluru was known as #Bendakaluru as groundnut was being cultivated here on large tracts of land here. However, on every Full Moon Day (Poornima), a bull was eating away the groundnuts. It is believed that the bull was none other than Nandi, the Bull Vehicle of Lord Shiva. Farmers found the idol of Nandi at the top of a hillock and offered prayers to it. The idol of Nandi at Dodda Basava is said to be an ever-growing stone idol. The menace ended after the farmers submitted a portion of the harvest to Nandi on the last Monday of Karteeka Masa (Karteeka antya Somavara), and also the next day. This dedication of groundnut harvest to Nandi is a very popular fair called Kadlekai Parishe, which is being celebrated for over four centuries now. A large number of groundnut sellers gather together and perform an Abhisheka of groundnuts to the giant Nandi idol, the insignia of Bengaluru. Groundnut is used for all decorative purposes, including a garland, which is submitted to Nandi. During this Kadlekai Parishe, farmers and groundnut sellers sing songs in praise of Nandi in Kannada. Heaps of groundnuts can be seen at every nook and corner of Basavanagudi during the fair. Raw, roasted and boiled groundnuts are sold everywhere. Toy games, children amusements like giant wheel, display and sale of a variety of goods mark the fair. A variety of condiments prepared with #groundnuts will be sold during the fair. Young and old alike, a large number of people throng the Dodda Ganesha temple during Kadlekai Parishe. ಬೆಂದಕಾಳೂರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿ ಪರಿಷೆ : ಕಾರ್ತೀಕ ಮಾಸ ಬಂತಂದ್ರೆ ಸಾಕು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗರಿಗೆ #ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಯ ನೆನಪಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆವ ಕಡಲೇಕಾಯಿ ಪರಿಷೆ. ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಈ ಜಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಲೆಕಾಯಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಡಲೆಯ(ಶೇಂಗಾ) ವಿವಿಧ ಬಗೆಯ ಖಾದ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿನ್ನುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರದ್ದು. ಹಾಗಂತ ಬರೀ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಜನರಷ್ಟೇ ಈ ಜಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಯಾಕಂದ್ರೆ ಈ ಕಡಲೇಕಾಯಿ ಪರಿಷೆಗೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಜನರೂ ಆಗಮಿಸ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಗಣಪತಿ ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಂತಿರುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಸವನ ಗುಡಿಯ ಸುತ್ತ-ಮುತ್ತಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಜಾತ್ರಾ ಕಳೆಗಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಕಾರ್ತೀಕ ಮಾಸದ ಕೊನೆ ಸೋಮವಾರದಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಶೇಂಗಾ ಅಥವಾ ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿಗಳ ರಾಶಿಗಳಿಂದ ಆವರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿಂದೆ ಬೆಂದಕಾಳೂರೆಂದೇ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಹುಭಾಗವು ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಹೆಸರಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ಪೌರ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ರಾತ್ರಿ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಕಾರಿಯಾದ ವೃಷಭ ಅಥವಾ ಬಸವವೊಂದು ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿಯೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಭಕ್ಷಿಸಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಬೇಸರಗೊಂಡ ರೈತರು ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾವಲಿದ್ದು ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಭಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಬಸವನನ್ನು ಓಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದಾಗ, ಅದು ಶಿಲಾಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾರ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ನಂತರ ಚಕಿತಗೊಂಡ ರೈತರು ಬೃಹತ್ತಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತ ಭಂಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಬಸವನಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಶಿವನ ವಾಹನ ನಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡರಂತೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಬಸವನ ರೈತರು ಬಸವನ ಆರಾಧನೆಗೆ ಮುಂದಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ತಾವು ಬೆಳೆದ ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ನಂದಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ, ಅರ್ಚಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಸವನು ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ರೈತರು ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ತಮ್ಮ ಫಸಲನ್ನು ನಂದಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಿಸುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭವೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿ ಪರಿಷೆ. ಹಸಿಯಾದ, ಹುರಿದ, ಬೇಯಿಸಿದ ಕಡ್ಲೆಕಾಯಿಯ ರಾಶಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಹರಡಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೆ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಕಡಲೇಕಾಯಿಯಿಂದ ತಯಾರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ವಿವಿಧ ಖಾದ್ಯಗಳೂ ತಿಂಡಿಪ್ರಿಯರನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಂದ ಮುದುಕರಾದಿಯಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಲ್ಲೂ ಜಾತ್ರೆಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸುವ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಇಲ್ಲದಿಲ್ಲ.
