Tulasi Importance

No Pujas offered to Lord Vishnu is complete without offering a leaf of Tulasi, and regarded as a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi. Tulasi is therefore an important medicinal herb among the households in The Hindu Sanatan Dharma.

Tulasi is prayed with the following Stotram everyday:

|| ನಮಸ್ತುಲಸೀ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಿ ನಮೋ ವಿಷ್ಣುಪ್ರಿಯೆ ಶುಭೇ |

| ನಮೋ ಮೋಕ್ಷಪ್ರದೇ ದೇವಿ ನಮಃ ಸಂಪತ್ಪ್ರದಾಯಿನೀ ||

|| NamaH Tulasi Kalyani namo Vishnupriye Shubhe |

| Namo Mokshaprade Devi namaH Sampat pradaayini ||

Anyone taking care of Tulsi in the Brindavanam offering water daily, is believed to gain Moksha (salvation) and the divine grace of Vishnu. Every House will have a Brindavanam with a Tulasi plant in it. Tulasi has been mentioned in Puranas, as a plant that generated when the demon Shankhachood was given Moksha by Lord Vishnu. Tulsi is venerated as a goddess in Hinduism and is considered as a wife of Vishnu she is also called as, “Vishnupriya” and “the beloved of Vishnu”.

Importance of Gau Puja | Go Puja

It is an ancient custom in Sanatan Dharma, to offer Pujas to the cows in the households. This was done on an everyday basis and especially on Friday. Gau or the cow is considered wealth. Also, on special occasions like festivals, this would be performed on a grand scale. The wealth of people was measured in terms of the number of cows held by them. Our country was extremely prosperous during the times when the cow was an integral part of the economy and society.

Lord Krishna always adored Gau Maata and advised everyone to do the same to receive her blessings.

When to Perform Gau Puja?

While, it is no longer possible in the modern life style, we can still perform the Gau Puja on special occasions like the Birthday, Marriage or Wedding Anniversary, or even completion of 25 years of married life. Shashti Poorti can be a great occasion for Gau Puja.

Performing Gau Puja, Gau Daan and offering Gau Graasa is capable of removing all kinds of sins. Performing these time-tested, proven rituals with the help of experienced Vedic Pandits, Purohits or Panthulu can be a very satisfying experience in life.

Nearly 36 deities have taken abode in the body of a cow and hence it is a sin to harm it. The base of cow horns is an abode of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva resides in the forehead and Goddess Uma resides in the middle of the forehead. The nose is an abode of Lord Ganesh and the nose tip is the abode of Kartikeya (Murugan). Lord Yama resides in the heart, holy River Yamuna resides in cow dung while Goddess Lakshmi resides at the hind part of the cow. The sages, rishis reside in the hair of the cow and other gods reside at the base of the tail. Her four legs are the four Vedas.
