About Temple

The Edavetty Sreekrishna temple, which is considered as the temple Nakula, the son of Ashwini Deva did Prathishta of Lord Sri Krishna about 5000 years ago with the motto ‘lokah samastha sukhino bhavanthu’ in mind. The temple faces towards west. The temple is under the Ooranma of Kidangoor Subrahmanya Temple. The Chira (water stream) in front of the temple is said to have medicinal powers and is known as Oushadha Chira. It is believed that taking bath in this water stream itself can cure diseases. The large vessels and other items received from the Chira are stored inside the temple as a treasure. The temple was under the Vadakkumkoor Empire. When the empire dissolved into Travancore Empire during the year 1750 AD, the temple governance became difficult and was handed over to 7 Brahmin families. They did Prathishta of their family deities as the sub-deities here. Later, when it became difficult to conduct even the daily pujas, the temple has been taken over by the Kidangoor Devaswom. Later in the year 1928, Kidangoor Devaswom re-constructed the Sreekovil, Namaskara Mandapam and Thidappalli etc. Though now the Temple is governed by Edavetty Sree Krishna Swamy Kshethra Devaswom Trust, Kidangoor Devaswom Manager is the Rakshadhikari of the Temple. May be because, was built by Nakula, the son of Ashwini Devas, who were known as the Vaidyas of heaven, the temple is considered special for medicine intake and for curing diseases. As the Prathishta was performed here with a vision to avoid diseases and struggles, there is nothing wrong if we think the temple was built to cure the diseases of devotees. Lord Ganapathi, Goddess Durga, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, Lord Siva, Nagaraja and Lord Subrahmanya are the sub-deities of the temple. Niraputhari, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Thiruvathira on the month of Dhanu, Aazhi Puja, Ayyappan Paattu, Ashtami-Rohini and Kuchela Day are the main festivals conducted here every year.

ലോകാസമസ്ത സുഖിനോ ഭവന്തുവെന്ന ഭാവേന അശ്വനിദേവപുത്രനായ നകുലൻ തങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷാദേവതയായ ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്തതെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന ഇടവെട്ടി ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് അയ്യായിരം വർഷത്തോളം പഴക്കമുണ്ടെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടാണ് ക്ഷേത്രദർശനം. കിടങ്ങൂർ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഊരാഴ്മയിലുള്ളതാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു മുൻപിലുള്ള ചിറ ഔഷധചിറയെന്നാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ ചിറയിൽ കുളിക്കുന്നത് പോലും രോഗശമനമേകുമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ക്ഷേത്രച്ചിറയിൽ നിന്നും വലിയ പാത്രങ്ങളും മറ്റും ലഭിച്ചത് ഏറെ വിശേഷപ്പെട്ട നിധിയായി ഇന്നും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. വടക്കുംകൂർ മഹാരാജഭരണത്തിന് കീഴിലായിരുന്നു ക്ഷേത്രം. 1750 ഏ.ഡി.യില് വടക്കുംകൂർ തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ ലയിച്ചതോടെ ക്ഷേത്ര നടപടികളിൽ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുണ്ടാകുകയും ക്ഷേത്രഭരണം 7 ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങളെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു, അവരാണ് തങ്ങളുടെ കുടുംബ ദേവതകളെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപദേവതമാരായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചത്. തുടർന്ന് ദൈനംദിനപൂജകൾക്കു പോലും ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടനുഭവപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ കിടങ്ങൂർ ദേവസ്വം ക്ഷേത്രമേറ്റെടുത്തു. പിന്നീട് 1928-ല് ശ്രീകോവില്, നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപം, തിടപ്പിള്ളി എന്നിവ നവീകരിച്ചത് കിടങ്ങൂര് ദേവസ്വമാണ്. ഇപ്പോള് ഇടവെട്ടി ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്ര ദേവസ്വം ട്രസ്റ്റ് ആണ് ഭരണച്ചുമതലകള് വഹിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലും, കിടങ്ങൂർ ദേവസ്വം മാനേജരാണ് ക്ഷേത്ര രക്ഷാധികാരി. ദേവലോകത്തെ വൈദ്യന്മാരെന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന അശ്വനീദേവകളുടെ പുത്രനായ നകുലൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചതിനാലായിരിക്കാം ക്ഷേത്രം ഔഷധസേവക്കും രോഗശമനത്തിനും ഏറെ വിശേഷപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. . പീഡകളും വ്യാധികളുമകറ്റുകയെന്ന സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്ര പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത് എന്ന വസ്തുതയും രോഗശമനമെന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തെ മുൻ നിർത്തി ഉള്ളതാണെന്ന് കരുതുന്നതിൽ തെറ്റില്ല. ഗണപതി, ദുര്‍ഗ്ഗ, ഭുവനേശ്വരി, ശിവൻ, നാഗരാജാവ്, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ എന്നിവരാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകള്‍. നിറപുത്തരി, വിനായക ചതുര്ത്ഥി, ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിര, ആഴിപൂജയും അയ്യപ്പന്പാട്ടും, അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, കുചേല ദിനം, എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാന വാര്‍ഷികോത്സവങ്ങള്‍.
