About Temple

Embracing the boundary of three districts Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alapuzha is the Vembanad backwaters and on its bank on the South East side is where the temple ever memorable shrine of Shree Dharma Sastha is positioned. Aging about 1200 years back this temple was located on the Eastern side of the backwaters seen today. At that period there was no backwaters in front of the temple. The temple was constructed by Edavanakkad Manakkal Sree Devanarayanan Namboothiri, interpreted by a dream to construct the temple along with idol Pradishta. In the year 1341 A.D. “Muvattupuzha River” flooded heavily destroying the temple and it’s surrounding thus forming the Vembanad backwaters. On the Southern side of the temple existing today the temple was rebuilt and reinstalled. Later even this temple was ruined in fire and after the temple was again built in the place which we worship today. After building in 2002 and on 2006 May 7th Sabarimala Thanthri Brahmasree Kandarar Rajeevar Thazhaman Madam re installed the Panchalogam idol of Kaliyugavaradhan Shri Dharma Sastha here is one of the rare temple of this kind in Perumbalam. The festival celebrated in the month Vrichikam ends with Aarattu on Uthram star day.

കോട്ടയം, എറണാകുളം, ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലകളെ തഴുകി ഉണര്‍ത്തി കടന്ന് വരുന്ന വേമ്പനാട്ട് കായല്‍ തീരത്ത് ചരിത്രം ഉറങ്ങുന്ന പെരുമ്പളത്തിന്‍റെ തെക്ക് കിഴക്ക് ഭാഗത്ത് ഗതകാല സ്മരണകളുമായി ദിവ്യ രശ്മി ചൊരിഞ്ഞ്‌ ശ്രീ ധര്‍മ്മ ശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രം കുടികൊള്ളുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 1200 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുമ്പ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഇന്ന് കാണുന്ന കായലിന്‍റെ കിഴക്ക് ഭാഗത്ത് ആയിരുന്നു. അന്ന് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ മുന്‍വശം വേമ്പനാട്ട് കായല്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരു ന്നില്ല. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചത് ഇടവനക്കാട് മനയ്ക്കല്‍ ശ്രീ ദേവനാരായണന്‍ നമ്പൂതിരിക്ക് ഉണ്ടായ സ്വപ്നം സാക്ഷാല്‍ക്കരിക്കാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹo പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയതാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് എ. ഡി. 1341 ലെ ശക്തമായ വെള്ളപ്പൊക്ക ത്തില്‍ ‘മൂവാറ്റുപുഴ ആറ്’ കരകവിഞ്ഞ് ഒഴുകി ക്ഷേത്രവും, പരിസര പ്രദേശവും തകര്‍ ന്നടിഞ്ഞ്‌ വേമ്പനാട്ട് കായല്‍ ആ ഭാഗത്ത് രൂപപ്പെട്ടു. അവിടെ നിന്നും ഇന്ന് ഇരിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ തെക്ക് ഭാഗത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച് ആരാധന നടത്തി പോന്നിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അഗ്നിക്ക് ഇര ആവുകയും, അതിനു ശേഷം ആണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഇന്ന് കാണുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം 2002 ന് ശേഷം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച്, 2006 മേയ് മാസം 7 തിയതി, ശബരിമല ക്ഷേത്രം തന്ത്രി ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ കണ്ഠര് രാജീവര് താഴമണ്‍ മഠം അവറുകള്‍ പുന:പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയ ആശ്വ വാഹനനും കലിയുഗവരദനും ആയ ശ്രീ ധര്‍മ്മ ശാസ്താവിന്‍റെ പഞ്ചലോഹ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ഉള്ള അപൂര്‍വ്വം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നാണ് പെരുമ്പളം ശ്രീ ധര്‍മ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം. വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ ഉത്രം നക്ഷത്രത്തില്‍ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി ഉത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്നു
