Munikkal Guhalayam is a cave temple situated atop a 100 feet high rocky hill situated in serene.Guhan is yet another name of Subramanya Swamy and so that the temple name “Munikkal Guhalayam” suits well as the temple of “Guhan” on the rock of Muni (sage Jangama).In another sense ‘Guha’ is Vave and the meaning of ‘Guhaalayam’ is ‘Cave Temple’.The rocks on the hill looks like the shape of an elephant holding its trunk upwards.On one of the rocks is situated Lord Ganesha Shrine and the idol is ‘Swayanbhoo'(Self originated).The main deity of this temple is’Lord Muruga'(Lord Subramanya) and the idol was consecrated by ‘Chattambi Swamikal’ in the presence of’Sree Narayana Guru’ in the year 1898.
So many devotees come to this temple every month on ‘Shashti’ day for visiting Lord Muruga and performing ‘Shashti observances’.The devotees has to reach the temple on the previous day and make arrangements for their observances for the ‘Shashti Vrat’.It is well famous that the Lord Subramanya of this Cave Temple bless the devotees whose marriage is delayed because of various reasons by performing ‘Shashti Vrat’ here.The marriage of such devotees will happen without any more delay.
The annual festival is in the month of ‘Makaram'(Jan-Feb) for three days.Sree Munikkara Guhaalaya Temple is also known as “Kerala Palani”.

എറണാകുളത്തു നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 30 കി.മി. ദൂരത്ത്‌ ചെങ്ങമനാട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ഏതാണ്ടു 100 അടി ഉരയരത്തില്‍ ഉള്ള ഒരു വലിയ പാറയുടെ മുകളില്‍ ആണ് ശ്രീ മുനിക്കര ഗുഹാലായ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.ഗുഹന്‍ എന്നത് സുബ്രമണ്യ സ്വാമിയുടെ മറ്റൊരു നാമമാണ്,അതു കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ മുനിക്കല്‍ ഗുഹാലയം എന്ന പേരും അന്വര്‍ത്ഥമാണ്.തുമ്പിക്കൈ ഉയര്‍ത്തി നില്‍ക്കുന്ന ഒരു ആനയുടെ രൂപം പോലെയാണ് മലയുടെ മുകളിലുള്ള പാറ നമുക്ക് ദര്‍ശിക്കാന്‍ സാധിക്കുന്നത്‌. ഈ പാറയുടെ മുകളിലുള്ള ഗണപതി ഭഗവാന്‍ സ്വയംഭൂ ആണെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.ഭഗവാന്‍ ശിവന്‍റെ പ്രതിഷ്ടയും ശ്രീ സുബ്രമണ്യന്‍റെ പ്രതിഷ്ടയും ഒരേ സ്ഥാനത്ത് വരുന്നു എന്നത് ഇവിടത്തെ ഒരു പ്രധാന പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്.മകര മാസത്തിലെ പൂയം ഇവിടത്തെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷ ദിവസമാണ്.അന്നേ ദിവസം ഇവിടത്തെ തിരുവുത്സവമായി ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു,
എല്ലാ മാസവുമുള്ള ഷഷ്ടിയും ഷഷ്ടി ഊട്ടും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്.ഗോപുര സമീപം ആല്‍,മാവ്,പ്ലാവ് ത്രയം കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.മാഞ്ഞാലി ദേശീയ പാതയില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഭാവിയില്‍ ഒരു ആത്മീയ തീര്‍ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമായി വളരുവാനുള്ള എല്ലാ സാധ്യതകളും ഉണ്ട്.ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ‘കേരള പഴനി’ എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
