Sri Male Mahadeshwara Temple is in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka, India. This pilgrim centre is at a distance of 80 km from Kollegal, 150 km from Mysuru and 210 km from Bengaluru. It is in the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu States.

The temple of Sri Mahadeshwara is located in a range of hills known as Madayyanagiri or Mahadeshwara Hills. Sri Male Mahadeshwara Kshetra is at 3,000 ft. above sea-level and it is surrounded by 77 hills, which are considered as sacred. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Shiva.

The area of the present temple surroundings is 155.57 acres (0.6296 km). In addition, the temple has lands at Talabetta, Haleyuru and Indiganatha villages. Amidst dense forests, the temple is not only a renowned pilgrim centre but also a splendored tourist spot.

ಶ್ರೀ ಮಲೆಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಚಾಮರಾಜನಗರದ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕೊಳ್ಳೇಗಾಲ ತಾಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ಥಳವು ಕೊಳ್ಳೇಗಾಲದಿಂದ 80ಕಿ. ಮೀ , ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ 150ಕಿ. ಮೀ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 210ಕಿ. ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಶ್ರೀ ಮಲೆಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಮಾದಯ್ಯನಗಿರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ಎಂಬ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲಿದೆ. ಸಮುದ್ರ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಸುಮಾರು 3000ಅಡಿಗಳಷ್ಟು ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು 77 ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವುದೊಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಂಗತಿ. ಶ್ರೀ ಮಲೆಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಲಯದ ಆರಾಧ್ಯ ದೈವವು ಕೈಲಾಸವಾಸಿ ಶಿವ.

ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಲೆಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಸುತ್ತಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣ 155.57 ಎಕರೆ (0.6296 ಕಿ.ಮೀ) ಯಷ್ಟಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಳಬೆಟ್ಟ, ಹಳೆಯೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಇಂದಿಗನಾಥ ಗ್ರಾಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಸ್ವಾಮ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಭೂಮಿಗಳಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಿತ್ಯ ಹರಿದ್ವರ್ಣದ ದಟ್ಟಕಾಡಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಲೆಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಶಿವಭಕ್ತರಲ್ಲದೇ, ನಿಸರ್ಗಪ್ರಿಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
