Talacauvery Temple-Bhagamandala:

Talacauvery temple-Bhagamandala is dedicated to River Cauvery (Kaveri) in Madikeri.

There is a tiny pond at the top of Brahmagiri, a small hill, at about 46 km from Madikeri, where Kaveri originates. This is the world famous Talakaveri. Kaveri is one of the seven rivers that have been extolled as holiest in Scriptures. She is the family deity of all the people of Kodagu district. Kaveri originates in the pond called Brahmakundike at Talakaveri on the auspicious occasion of Tula Sankramana in October, every year. This holy instance is called as Teerthodbhava. Lakhs of people from across the State throng Talakaveri to see the sacred moment. Later, they take a dip in the nearby pond to get blessed and sanctified. It is believed that a dip in Kaveri is as meritorious as a dip in the holy Ganga.

At Talakaveri, there is a temple each dedicated to Sri Agastyeshwar and Sri Ganapati, respectively. Saptarshis are said to have performed a sacrifice at the top of the 300-ft. high Brahmagiri. As a testimony to this fact, there are seven small squares set up for performing Homas and sacrifices.

Talacauvery temple-Bhagamandala is administered by Muzrai Department of Government of Karnataka.

Talakaveri is well-connected by surface transport. Entry to the temple will be closed after 6 p.m. every day.

ಮಡಿಕೇರಿಯಿಂದ 46 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಗಿರಿ ಎಂಬ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಏಳು ನದಿಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದಾಗಿರುವ ಕಾವೇರಿಯು ಉಗಮವಾಗುವ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಕೊಳವೊಂದಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಜಗದ್ವಿಖ್ಯಾತ ತಲಕಾವೇರಿ. ಕಾವೇರಿ ಕೊಡವರ ಕುಲದೇವತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳ ತುಲಾ ಸಂಕ್ರಮಣದ ಶುಭ ಘಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಕುಂಡಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾವೇರಿ ಉದ್ಭವಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭವನ್ನು ‘ತೀರ್ಥೋದ್ಭವ’ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ತೀರ್ಥೋದ್ಭವವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ದೇಶದೆಲ್ಲೆಡಯಿಂದ ಸಹಸ್ರಾರು ಭಕ್ತರು ತಲಕಾವೇರಿಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿ ಸಮೀಪದ ಕೊಳವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಣ್ಯಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿ ಪುನೀತರಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಲಕಾವೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಸ್ನಾನ ಗಂಗಾಸ್ನಾನದಷ್ಟೇ ಪುಣ್ಯಪ್ರದ ಮತ್ತು ಮೋಕ್ಷಪ್ರದ.

ತಲಕಾವೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯೇಶ್ವರ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣಪತಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಿವೆ. ಹಿಂದೆ, ಈ ಮುನ್ನೂರು ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಗಿರಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಪ್ತಋಷಿಗಳು ಯಜ್ಞ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವೆಂಬಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಏಳು ಹೋಮ ಕುಂಡಗಳಿವೆ.

ತಲಕಾವೇರಿಯನ್ನು ತಲುಪಲು ಉತ್ತಮ ರಸ್ತೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕವಿದೆ. ಸಂಜೆ ಆರು ಗಂಟೆಯ ನಂತರ ತಲಕಾವೇರಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶವಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ.
