About Temple

Very near to North Paravur in Ernakulam district, Thrikkapuram Devi Kshethram, an 800 years old temple situates. In the far earlier years this oration centre was with Karingaamppilli Swaroopam. Later, everything was entrusted with Paravoor Thampuran. From Thampuran it all came over to 4 Nair families in Kottuvalli including the right on the temple and assets. After wide long travels, the splendor of Devi, along with Karingampilli Swaroopam arrived at Kottuvally. Now the natives of the place were fortunate enough to get a Devi Prathishta here, later their favorite Thrikkapuratthamma.

There are many interesting and conventional ceremonies here, which can be seen nowhere and those are all especially in the festive season. After the ceremony of hoisting of the flag announcing the festival, these all begin with. On the 1st, 2nd days, there is Othalanga Eru (ഒതളങ്ങ ഏറ്), which has been here, since ancient times. After the evening inside the temple premises, on the 2 sides, Othalanga is stored, a gunny full each. It is used to burn in fire to attain each Othalanga, a global form. These fire globes are taken by certain devotees on naked hand and they use to throw against the other team. The group at the other end, do and repeat the same. At this time, the both sides use to produce “Arpuvili”. On the days of celebrations in the morning, another ceremonial enjoyment is a ‘Choottu Padayani’. In the morning the coconut leaf bunches are tied together and taken to fire. The devotees circum-ambulate the temple. These two practices are very very rare in Malayali temples. And, on Padayani dates, the bigger cut-outs of Sri Hanuman and Bheema are brought inside the temple in heart-full devotion.

Also, Lord Ganapathi, Garuda and Sri Krishna are made to appear in small size. Thalappoli is extra ordinarily grand with many elephants and ‘Melam’. NSS Karayogam is propagating programs as they possess the temple and all. Kaitharam Karayogam NSS 812 own the temple and those assets. The thanthrik rights go with Thamarasseri Mekkattu.

ഉത്സവകാലങ്ങളിൽ മറ്റു ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നുമില്ലാത്ത ഏറെ കൗതുകമുണർത്തുന്ന ആചാരങ്ങൾ പ്രസ്തുത ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയുണ്ട്. ഉത്സവം കൊടിയേറ്റു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ആദ്യത്തെ രണ്ടുദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പുരാതനകാലംമുതൽ ഉള്ള ഒരു ചടങ്ങാണ് ഒതളങ്ങ ഏറ്. സന്ധ്യകഴിഞ്ഞ് ഇരുഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി ഓരോചാക്ക് ഒതളങ്ങ കൂട്ടിയിട്ട് തീകത്തിക്കുകയും അത് കനൽരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഗോളങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ ജ്വലിക്കുമ്പോൾ ആർപ്പുവിളികളോടെ ഭക്തർ കൈകൊണ്ടെടുത്ത്‌ അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും എറിയുകയും ചെയ്യും . അതുപോലെ ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പുലർച്ചെ നടത്തിവരുന്ന മറ്റൊരു ചടങ്ങാണ് ചൂട്ടുപടയണി. തെങ്ങിന്റെ ഉണങ്ങിയ ഓലകൾകെട്ടി വലിയ ചൂട്ടുകളാക്കി കത്തിച്ചുപിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഭക്തർ ആർപ്പുവിളികളോടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുചുറ്റും മൂന്നുപ്രാവശ്യം വലംവച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഓടുന്നു.. മേല്പറഞ്ഞ രണ്ടുചടങ്ങുകളും തൃക്കപ്പുരത്തിന്റെ മാത്രം പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. മറ്റെവിടെയും ഈ ചടങ്ങുകൾ കാണാനാകില്ല. കൂടാതെ പടയണിദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഹനുമാൻ, ഭീമൻ എന്നീ വലിയ ഉരുക്കളും, ഗണപതി, ഗരുഡൻ, കൃഷ്ണൻ എന്നീ ചെറിയ ഉരുക്കളും എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുന്നു. താലപ്പൊലിയിലെ ആന, വാദ്യമേളങ്ങൾ, താലം, വെടിക്കെട്ട്‌ മുതലായവയും തൃക്കപുരം ഉത്സവത്തിനു മാറ്റുകൂട്ടുന്നു.

ഇപ്പോൾ ക്ഷേത്രവും സ്വത്തുക്കളും NSS കരയോഗത്തിനു കീഴിലാണ്. കൈതാരം 812-)൦ നമ്പർ N.S.S. കരയോഗവും കൊട്ടുവള്ളി 1034-)൦ നമ്പർ N.S.S. കരയോഗവും ആണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെയും ക്ഷേത്രം വക സ്വത്തുക്കളുടെയും ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ അവകാശികൾ. താമരശ്ശേരി മേക്കാട്ടുമനയ്ക്കാണ് താന്ത്രിക അവകാശം.
