About Temple

For relief and release from hardships and diseases, a visit to the ‘four temples’ of Lord Sri Rama, Lord Lakshmana, Lord Bharatha, Lord Shathrughna, the blessed sons of great Dasharatha in the month of Karkkidakam (July-August), is followed for centuries in Kerala. The pilgrim program is beginning by entering into Lord Srirama Temple at Ramapuram. In continuance, Sri Lakshmana Temple at Koodappulam, Sri Bharatha Temple at Amanakara and Sri Shathrughna Temple at Methiri must have to be visited and worshipped. After completing the visit of these 4 temples, finally coming back to Sri Rama temple again, before noon, is the custom followed.

From Pala of Kottayam District, a 17 KMs distance reaches a village Methiri, wherein Lord Shathrughna Swamy temple situates. In a group of 4 temples to cover Nalambalam Pilgrimage, this rare temple is the last one. A heavy rush is every year to this temple to cover this pilgrimage. Melthirivu in Malayalam means ‘a turn above’ also the ‘western side’, which later became the name of the place itself. In a silent and calm enshrinement, Lord Shathrughna is here, on his right side an other temple which has got the consecration of Goddess Porkkali, who is the family traditional deity of a Namboodiri family, known to be Kondamaruku Mana. This same family is managing the temple affairs everything now. At the eastern part of the Shathrughna Temple there see the ‘Moolasthanam’ of Porkkali Devi. The square shaped Shathrughna temple is built up in rock upto its upper roof. Upto noon the Lord is in ‘Shathrughna Bhava’ and in the evening he attains the Santhanagopala Bhava. As a sub deity, Lord Siva is here, carrying Unniganapathi on the Lord’s hip. At outside, the strong presence of Nagas, Kakkoor Bhagawathi, Panchamoorthi all are insighting and rejoicing. Outside the temple under a Palamaram (Pala tree), the ‘threshing floor’ (Guruthi thara) for performing Guruthi puja etc is positioned. The Thanthri of the temple is from Manayathattu Illam. A six day celebration in which last day is accurately to join with Rohini in Meda month, a grand festival is propogated. The other reverberation is Nalambalam Pilgrimage in the month of Karkatakam. Except the Nalambalam pilgrimage period, the visiting time for the devotees is scheduled as 5 to 10 in the morning and 5.30 to 7 in the evening. In Karkataka, the time varies, from 5 to 12 in the morning. The temple is easily reachable by any mode of vehicles.

ജീവിത ദുരിതങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും രോഗപീഡകളിൽ നിന്നും രക്ഷ നേടാനായി കർക്കിടക (ജൂലായ്- ആഗസ്റ്റ്) മാസത്തിൽ ദശരഥപുത്രന്മാരായ ശ്രീരാമൻ, ഭരതൻ, ലക്ഷ്മണൻ, ശത്രുഘ്നൻ എന്നിവരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലേക്ക് നടത്തുന്ന തീർഥാടനമാണ് നാലമ്പല യാത്ര. നാലമ്പല തീര്ത്ഥാ ടനത്തിന് പ്രശസ്തമാണ് കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ രാമപുരം ദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന രാമപുരം ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, അമനകര ശ്രീ ഭരതസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, കൂടപ്പുലം ലക്ഷ്മണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, മേതിരി ശത്രുഘ്‌നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവ. തീര്ത്ഥാ ടനം തുടങ്ങുന്നത് ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ നിന്നാണ്. ലക്ഷ്മണ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, ഭാരത സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, ശത്രുഘ്‌നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെത്തി ദര്‍ശനം നടത്തി തിരികെ വീണ്ടും ശ്രീരാമ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തി ഭഗവാന്‍ ശ്രീരാമചന്ദ്രന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം വാങ്ങി മടങ്ങുന്ന ക്രമത്തിലാണു ദർശനം നടത്തേണ്ടത്. ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് മുമ്പ് തീര്‍ക്കേണ്ടതാണ് ഈ ദര്‍ശനക്രമം.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയില്‍ പാലായില്‍ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 17 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെ രാമപുരത്തിനടുത്ത് മേതിരിയില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധവും പുരാതനവുമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് മേതിരി ശത്രുഘ്‌നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം .കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ നാലമ്പല ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണിത്. ‘മേല്‍ തിരിവ്’ എന്ന വാക്ക് ലോപിച്ചുണ്ടായതാണത്രേ മേതിരി. പടിഞ്ഞാറു ഭാഗമെന്നും മേതിരിക്ക് അര്ത്ഥാമുണ്ട്. ശാന്തരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ശത്രുഘ്‌നസ്വാമിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണിവിടെ. ശത്രുഘ്‌നസ്വാമിയുടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് വലതുവശത്തായി ക്ഷേത്രകാര്യങ്ങള്‍ നോക്കി വരുന്ന കൊണ്ടമറുക് മനക്കാരുടെ പരദേവതയായ ശ്രീപോര്‍ക്കലിയുടെ ക്ഷേത്രവുമുണ്ട്. ശത്രുഘ്‌ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കു വശത്താണ് ശ്രീപോര്‍ക്കലി ദേവിയുടെ മൂലസ്ഥാനം. ചതുരാകൃതിയിലുള്ള ശത്രുഘ്‌ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മേല്ക്കൂവരവരെ കരിങ്കല്ലിലാണ് പണിതിരിയ്ക്കുന്നത്. ഉച്ച വരെ ശത്രുഘ്ന ഭാവത്തിലുള്ള ഭഗവാന്‍, വൈകിട്ട് സന്താനഗോപാല ഭാവത്തിലാണ് ഭക്തര്ക്ക്് അനുഗ്രഹം നല്കുെന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ഉപദേവതകളായി ഭഗവാന്‍ ശിവനും ഒക്കത്ത് ഗണപതിയും, പുറത്ത് സാന്നിദ്ധ്യമായി നാഗങ്ങള്‍, കാക്കൂര്‍ ഭഗവതി, പഞ്ചമൂര്ത്തി , ശ്രീ പോര്ക്ക ലി മൂലസ്ഥാനം എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പുറത്തായി പാലമരച്ചുവട്ടില്‍ ഗുരുതിക്കളവും നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. മനയത്താറ്റ് ഇല്ലക്കാര്ക്കാ്ണ് തന്ത്രിസ്ഥാനം. മേടമാസത്തിലെ രോഹിണി ആറാട്ട് വരത്തക്ക വിധമുള്ള ആറു ദിവസത്തെ ഉത്സവവും കര്ക്കി ടക മാസത്തിലെ നാലമ്പല ദര്ശളനവുമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങള്‍. കര്ക്കിലടക മാസം (നാലമ്പല ദര്ശലന മാസമായ രാമായണമാസം) ഒഴിച്ചുള്ള സമയങ്ങളില്‍ ദര്ശ(ന സമയം രാവിലെ 5.00 മുതല്‍ 10.00 വരെയും വൈകുന്നേരം 5.30 മണിമുതല്‍ 7 മണിവരെയുമാണ്. കര്ക്കിാടക മാസത്തില്‍ ദര്ശുന സമയം രാവിലെ 5 മുതല്‍ ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 12.00 വരെ. കോട്ടയം – പാലാ – രാമപുരം വഴിയും, എംസി റോഡില്‍ കൂത്താട്ടുകുളത്തു നിന്നും അമനകര വഴിയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താം.
