Perandoor Bhagawathi Temple is one amongst the 108 Bhagawathi temples enshrined by Lord Parashurama which has a vedic back ground of thousands of years. It is meritorious by the abundance of hundreds of years’ history and legendary.
In 1965 the temple was liable to fire and with the help and cooperation of the devotees and public, it was renovated and rejuvenated. Rare records obtained at the time of re-construction from above the old Srikovil, it was coming clear that the temple was 1600 years old. Besides, centuries back, the Kings of Edappalli Regency had donated many lands and assets to the temple free of tax. In the year 1973, according to an agreement, the administration of three temples, Perandoor, Punnackal and Puthukkalavattom were handed over to Elamakkara NSS Karayogam by Vasudeva Valiyaraja of Elangalloor Swaroopam. Perandoor bhagwathi temple is highly famous as ‘Kuladevatha Temple’, as the worship of distant people even and they invoke Bhagawathi as their ‘own Kuladevatha’. It’s the only temple wherein there is a 5 time puja, in an around the whole Edappally area.
As the presence of an ancestor, who is believed to have brought in Devi to this place, that old forefather is worshipped inside the temple everyday in ‘Padmamittu’ puja seeing him as an ‘Adiman rakshas’. In a small garbhagriha on the left side of the main srikovil, Lord Ganapathi is consecrated. Together, to signify with the presence of Lord Siva, a ‘sivalinga’ is here which was the ‘thevara murthi’ of a former priest.
Outside the ‘Balivattom’ of the temple, in a special shrine, Lord Dharmasastha is installed and on the southern side ‘Yakshitthara’ situates, where Yakshi has been well seated. Another divine attraction in the temple is Nagathara, which has many Nagadevathas, all brought in by the Moola kudumbam of the temple from different places and also by the people largely around, after the systematic thantrik avahanam everything, the enshrinements all were completed.
The presiding deity is worshipped here as Karthyayani, hence Thrikarthika in the month of Vrishchikam is as lavish as a festival itself. The annual festival is on the Uthradam day of Medam, when it conjoins with the day of Arattu. Once a spread of fire was inside the temple on the same day of Makam thozhal in the renowned Chottanikkara devi temple. A ‘displeased bhava’ of Devi, it was assessed. And afterwards a remedy was coming to being ‘to celebrate Makam thozhal’ on the same day of Chottanikkara Makamthozhal ceremonially and in every higher status.
From Ernakulam city at a distance of 5 KMs, Perandoor temple situates. Every kind of vehicles is available to reach this place. South, North, Edappalli Railway stations are nearby. From 5 AM to 10.30 and 5.15 PM to 7.45 is the time for visit.

പരശുരാമന്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ടിച്ച 108 ദുര്‍ഗാലയങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നായ പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് വേദകാലത്തോളം ഐതീഹ്യപ്പെരുമയും നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ ചരിത്രവുമുണ്ട്‌. മൂലവിഗ്രഹം കൃഷ്ണശിലയില്‍ തീര്‍ത്ത ചതുര്‍ബാഹുവായ ദേവിയാണ്.
1965-ല്‍ നടന്ന അഗ്നിബാധയെ തുടര്‍ന്ന്‍ പൊതുജന സഹകരണത്തോടെ ക്ഷേത്രം പുനരുദ്ധാരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയുണ്ടായി. പുനരുദ്ധാരണ സമയത്ത് ക്ഷേത്ര ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ മുകളില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ ലഭിച്ച രേഖകള്‍ പ്രകാരം 1600 വര്‍ഷത്തോളം പഴമ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുണ്ടെന്ന് തെളിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. മാത്രമല്ല, ഈ പ്രദേശം ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇടപ്പള്ളി തമ്പുരാക്കന്മാര്‍ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകള്‍ക്ക് മുമ്പ് തന്നെ ഇടപ്പള്ളി സ്വരൂപം വകയായി നിരവധി സ്ഥലങ്ങള്‍ കരമൊഴിവായി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടതായി കാണാം. 1973 ല്‍ ഒരു ഉടമ്പടി അനുസരിച്ച് പേരണ്ടൂര്‍, പുന്നയ്ക്കlല്‍, പുതുക്കലവട്ടം എന്നീ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെ ഭരണാധികാരം എളങ്ങൂര്‍ സ്വരൂപത്തിലെ വാസുദേവന്‍ എന്ന വലിയരാജ എളമക്കര എന്‍.എസ്.എസ് കരയോഗത്തിന് കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്തു. അന്യദേശക്കാരുള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവര്‍ അവരുടെ കുലദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ കുലദേവതാ ക്ഷേത്രമായും പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. ഇടപ്പള്ളി പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ ഉള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ നിത്യവും അഞ്ച് പൂജ നടക്കുന്നത് ഇവിടെ മാത്രമാണ്.
ദേവിയെ ഈ ദേശത്തേയ്ക്ക് ആനയിച്ച് ഇരുത്തിയ പൂര്‍വികനെ സാന്നിധ്യ ഭാവത്തില്‍ കാണുന്നതിനാല്‍ ആദിമാനായ രക്ഷസിനെ സങ്കല്‍പ്പിച്ച് തിടപ്പള്ളിയില്‍ പത്മമിട്ട് പൂജ നടത്തിവരുന്നു. പ്രധാന ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ഇടത് ഭാഗത്തുള്ള ചെറിയ ഗര്‍ഭ ഗൃഹത്തിലാണ് ഗണപതിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്, ഒപ്പം ശിവസാന്നിധ്യമായി പഴയ പൂജാരിമാരിലൊരാളുടെ തേവാരമൂര്‍ത്തിയായിരുന്ന ശിവലിംഗവുമുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ ബലിവട്ടത്തിന് പുറത്തായി പ്രത്യേക ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ശാസ്താവിനേയും തെക്ക് വശത്തായി തറയില്‍ യക്ഷിയേയും പ്രതിഷ്ടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവിടുത്തെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ് വിശിഷ്ടമായ നാഗത്തറ. വിദൂര ദേശങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ പോലുമുള്ള മൂല കുടുംബക്കാരും മറ്റുള്ളവരും ആവാഹിച്ച് എത്തിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള അനേകം നാഗബിംബങ്ങള്‍ ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രധാന മൂര്‍ത്തിയെ കാര്‍ത്ത്യായനി സങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തില്‍ പൂജിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ വൃശ്ചിക മാസത്തിലെ തൃക്കാര്‍ത്തിക ഉത്സവശ്ചായയിലാണ് ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. മേടത്തിലെ ഉത്രം നക്ഷത്രം ആറാട്ട് ആയി വരുന്ന വിധത്തില്‍ വാര്ഷികോത്സവവും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ അതിപ്രശസ്തമായ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നായ ചോറ്റാനിക്കര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മകം തൊഴല്‍ ദിവസം പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും അഗ്നിബാധ ഉണ്ടായത് ദേവിയുടെ അനിഷ്ടം കാരണം ആണെന്ന വിശ്വാസത്തില്‍ അതിന് ശേഷം പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും മകം തൊഴല്‍ വളരെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ അനുഷ്ടാനമായും ആചാരപരമായും ഉത്സവതുല്യം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
എറണാകുളം സിറ്റിയില്‍ നിന്നും അഞ്ച് കിലോ മീറ്ററോളം ദൂരത്തായി, സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പേരണ്ടൂര്‍ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് ബസ്, ഓട്ടോറിക്ഷ എന്നിവ എപ്പോഴും ലഭ്യമാണ്. അധികം ദൂരെയല്ലാതെ സൌത്ത്, നോര്‍ത്ത്, ഇടപ്പള്ളി റെയില്‍വെ സ്റ്റേഷനുകളും സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ദര്‍ശന സമയം രാവിലെ 5 മുതല്‍ 10.30 വരെയും വൈകിട്ട 5.15 മുതല്‍ 7.45 വരെയും.
